Hi every one, with Christmas not to far into the future, I thought would be interesting to share how we all spend the holidays.  Gamezebo is a veritable United Nations with all the different nationalities of it's members, and we all  have our diiferent customs and traditions. So, I thought it woild be fun to share them.

So I suppose I should go first then.   My husband and I always go home to New Zealand for the holidays.  It's a summer Christmas, which I know some of you might find strange, but for me it's the most natural way to spend it. I come from a large family, so it's always a big gathering, siblings, spouses, nieces and nephews. We always gather at my parents home around 11am on Christmas morning to open presents, then the young ones play with their new presents, while everyone else prepares Christmas lunch, roast turkey and stuffing, baked ham on the bone, roast leg of lamb, and roast pork, cooked on the spit, we have new potables and beans dug from my fathers garden, salads, roast pumpkin and sweet potatoes. Desserts are all home made, Pavlova, fresh fruit salad, trifle and Christmas pudding all served with fresh whipped cream, we toast with ice cold Champagne (sparkling  grape juice for the young ones.  It's all laid out on the kitchen counter and everyone helps themselves (no rules about what you have to put on your plate, it is, after all Christmas) My parents home is on the water with loads of french doors, and they are all thrown open and tables set up out on the veranda and we all eat outside over looking the water, we eat, we chat and catch up till the afternoon, when people have other commitments, early evening sees other friends and family members dropping in, and a cold buffet of leftovers is laid out along with fresh bread, and more Champagne and cocktails, sitting outside toasting each other and watching the sunset on another wonderful family get together.

Well now you've heard how I spend mine, I would love to here how you all spend my favorite  holiday.

    Happy holidays,

    Amm

I'm half Danish and we always celebrate christmas the 24th of december. We start with dinner of turkey (the Danes also have duck or a roast), brown potatoes (warmed in melted sugar and butter), normal potatoes, red cabbage and sidedishes with typically danish graeskar. The dessert is always rice-pudding with almonds. One whole almond and whoever gets it gets an extra present (the children always miraculously got a whole almond). After dishes we sit or walk around the tree singing danish christmas carols. Then we open the presents.

Hi Amm.. good idea starting this Thread..

Sounds great to go to N.Zealand for the Christmas Holidays... thanks for sharing!!

I guess my story is the opposite..

Here where I live some people go on Holidays for Xmas.. but I've never been during Xmas time...

We normally stay home and have family over for a big dinner with stuffed Turkey or we're going to visit our family having the same dinner overthere. We're also having a Xmas tree with all kind of little things and lights..

Most of the time it's a family happening... that's quite different from you overthere... But maybe an idea to go for a Holiday sometimes as well at Xmas!!!

    Happy holidays for you!!

EDIT: Hi Brandasoma... great..  we've nearly the same story but I forgot the presents ofcourse....and we're singing Dutch Christmas carols...LOL..
