Hidato Adventures Review: Hidato Adventures is a numbers-based puzzle game with more than 1,000 levels!

Jun 20, 2011

At first glance you’d probably be inclined to think Hidato Adventures is a Sudoku game and either sit down or move on (depending on your current tolerance for Sudoku). But good news! This game has nothing at all do to with Sudoku, save for the fact that it’s also a number puzzle. It’s actually quite a refreshing puzzle game unlike anything else I’ve played.

Skipping Stone Review: Skipping Stone is more addictive and less frustrating than the real thing

Jun 20, 2011

Skipping Stone is the latest in Gamevil's line-up of nefariously addictive games. It may also be the first title within the company's stable to feature an anthropomorphic stone. That's right. Not only does the titular character have an expressive face, it also sports arms and a skeletal structure: something I found both strangely adorable and rather disturbing. Unusual protagonist aside, the basic conceit here is simple: get the stone as far as it can go.

Jun 18, 2011

Did you know that ping-pong, once upon a time, served as the ice-breaker between Communist China and the United States in the 1970s? It's true: the U.S. and China sent ping-pong players to each others' countries, which paved the way for Richard Nixon's diplomatic visit to Beijing in 1972. City Wars Review: City Wars is like Risk but without all the strategy

Jun 18, 2011

City Wars is like Risk, but without the same level of strategy. It’s a game about domination, taking over city after city, one hexagon at a time. But the frequent battles are so automatic, and so little feedback is given about why you won or lost, that there’s virtually no strategy involved other than ensuring you’re at a high enough level and stocked up with strong units. It’s still fun, but far from satisfying.

Jun 18, 2011

Full-blown sequels to hit Facebook games aren’t all that common just yet, but if they could all be as good as Zoo World 2 we wouldn’t mind seeing more. The successor to Zoo World takes everything that made the original a four star game and makes it better: more options, better visuals, and just an improved experience overall.

CityVille Hometown Preview: Zynga wants to turn your pocket into a bustling metropolis

Jun 17, 2011

As big as Zynga might be on Facebook, the social gaming giant has had something of a chequered past on the iPhone. After a few early, watered-down versions of Facebook games like Mafia Wars and Street Racing hit the App Store back in 2009, the company seemed to maintain iOS radio silence for almost a year. That was broken with the release of FarmVille, but shortly thereafter their lips were once again sealed on mobile devices. Now, after months of smart acquisitions in the mobile field, Zynga finally seems to be coming out of their shell. Last week’s release of Hanging With Friends has already soared to #1 in the charts, and hot on its heels Zynga is prepping a new portable version of their popular CityVille for release.
