Bumper Stars Review

Oct 17, 2009

4
Bumper Stars began life last year as a Flash game on various websites and social networks, but a new adaptation for the iPhone and iPod Touch may be the best version to date. Like PopCap's smash hit, Peggle (http://gamezebo.com/games/peggle/review), Bumper Stars mixes elements from a couple of disparate games -- in this case, billiards and pinball -- and intuitive touch controls and Facebook integration make it an ideal pick for a quick fix on the go. Skee-Ball Review

Oct 17, 2009

4.5
You know you're addicted to a game when you wake up in the morning and log in to find out where you stand against all of the other iPhone Skee-Ball players out there even before you brush your teeth. That's, me. I admit it. I've definitely been bitten by the Skee-Ball bug (and don't even get me started on how much time I spend managing my Farmville farm). Sometimes you find a game like Skee-Ball that is so simple yet so much fun you want to keep playing it over and over again, because you never know when you're going to get that magic combination of great shots that result in an all time high score. Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 3 - Lair of the Leviathan Review

Oct 17, 2009

4.5

While the previous two chapters in the continuing saga of Mighty Pirate Guybrush Threepwood all took place either at sea or on land, the third chapter of Tales of Monkey Island goes somewhere completely unexpected: inside of a giant manatee. That's right, the majority of Threepwood's latest outing Lair of the Leviathan takes place inside of a hapless sea creature, which makes for plenty of amusing situations, in what is easily the best entry in the series to date.

Destination: Treasure Island Review

Oct 16, 2009

3

There is certainly no shortage of pirate-themed adventure games available, which makes it tough to stand out from the pack. And though Destination: Treasure Island has a few interesting ideas, it ends up as nothing more than a competent, slightly generic, swashbuckling adventure.

The story follows retired pirate Jim Hawkins, formerly Long John Silver's right-hand man. Despite having been out of the plundering business for several years, Jim gets a blast from the past in the form of a visit from Long John Silver's parrot, who informs him that he has been left some buried treasure. Choosing the only sensible option, Jim lifts anchor and sets forth in search of the riches.

Did Electronic Arts Purchase a Social Games Company Recently?

Oct 15, 2009

Rumors are abound that video game juggernaut Electronic Arts (EA) is in talks to purchase a social games company. According to an article by Inside Social Games, EA talked to Zynga about an acquisition, but Zynga wanted more money than was offered. EA has supposedly also approached PlayFish and is in talks or have already purchased them for $250 million and not announced it yet.

Or, maybe not. Gamasutra posted an interview with Electronic Arts COO John Schappert today where he suggests that the hype in social games is similar to the excitement that built years ago around mobile games which turned out to be merely a bubble.
