Famed video game designer Peter Molyneux isn’t known for doing anything small. The man behind the god game genre has proven to be as much showman as creator over the years, a trait that finally turned a big chunk of the gaming community against him when it felt he over-hyped and under-delivered with the mobile games Curiosity and Godus with his current studio, 22Cans.

Oh, and the infamous Rock Paper Shotgun interview didn’t help much either.

But it didn’t mean 22Cans just rode off into the sunset, just that perhaps Molyneux and his team learned the value of doing some things more quietly and letting their work speak for itself. As evidence, the people at Touch Arcade have found a brand new game called The Trail that the studio has soft launched — but only in the Philippines.

22 cans the trail

Here’s how its App Store write-up describes it:

The Trail will lead you to adventure and fortune!

The few people in the TA forum who have played it have positive things to say about it, and it looks visually impressive. Of course that’s never been an issue with 22Cans titles, or Molyneux’s work in general.

What people will want to know is whether it lives up to the hype, except this time there is no hype. That might just work out for the best.

If you simply can’t wait to judge for yourself, here are some tips on how to get an iTunes account for Canada that will work just fine for adding one in the Philippines too.
