The Walking Dead: Michonne is a three-episode event from Telltale Games that does something different than all of their past Walking Dead experiences: it plugs a hole from the comics. In the print universe of The Walking Dead, Michonne disappears from issues #126 thru #139. Telltale’s mini-series is going to tell you why.

The video above, released by Telltale over the weekend, shows the first 6 minutes of gameplay. There’s a lot of zombie-killing in there, as well as a flip/flop between her present and her past. It’s definitely good for whetting the appetite, especially if you’re a Michonne uber-fan (which is probably what it says on my wife’s business cards).

Also of note: while this might mean the comic books and Telltale series exist in the same universe, they’ve made a solid choice to help them keep their distance from the AMC show. Rather than casting TV’s Danai Gurira to reprise her role as Michonne for the game, the voice work is being done by another of television’s great strong black females, Samira Wiley — better known as Poussey from Orange is the New Black’s Poussey.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne will be arriving on most platforms February 23rd, but in keeping with Telltale tradition, Michonne will hit mobile a few days later on Thursday, February 25th.
