If you follow the games press, there’s been a lot of weird hinting and conjecture around The Binding of Isaac and mobile phones lately. Tyrone Rodriguez, the founder of Nicalis who served as the producer on the souped-up remake The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, teased a screenshot of the game’s title screen running on an iPhone last Wednesday …along with the words “no, not really.”

This was his response to a question about whether or not they’d ever considered bringing the game to mobile. (It’s ok to chuckle. I certainly did.)

Then, earlier this week, Rodriguez posted a Vine showing the game being played on an iPhone 5S with a bluetooth controller.

With most developers, this would be confirmation enough. But The Binding of Isaac is a game that’s stooped in weird secrets and misdirection. In fact, there was a fantastic interview on Kotaku yesterday with Edmund McMillen, the games’ creator, that discusses this very topic. It’s a great longread that I strongly encourage you to check out.

And if you make it all the way to the end? You’ll be rewarded with a heaping helping of confirmation. After speaking with McMillen, Kotaku’s Patrick Klepek was able to confirm that the game is indeed coming to the iPhone and iPad:

The details go about as far as “it’s happening,” but if you’re a fan of The Binding of Isaac, that should be more than enough to whet your appetite. Hopefully we’ll learn a little bit more about when to expect it, and what it includes, sometime in the near future.
