Dragon Quest VII is coming to mobile. We should get a good look at it at the Tokyo Game Show, which takes place on September 17 through 20.

Dragon Quest VII on mobile isn’t surprising at all, as Dragon Quest has been going through something of a mobile-release boom. And if Dragon Quest VIII is do-able on mobile, there’s no reason why Dragon Quest VII shouldn’t be. In fact, the game will be a port of the re-release that hit the Nintendo 3DS back in 2013.

But here’s where question marks start to pop up. Unlike other Dragon Quest re-releases, North America never saw an English-language version of Dragon Quest VII for the 3DS. In fact, Dragon Quest VII is a bit of an elusive title, as far as translations go. It was localized for the PlayStation in 2001, but beyond that, it’s scarcely seen on these shores.

Will that change with Dragon Quest VII for mobile? It might. After all, Square-Enix supplied new translations for its mobile releases of Dragon Quest I, II, and III. It’s not hard to imagine it’ll fund an English version of Dragon Quest VII. Though, admittedly, VII has a lot of text to translate.

We’ll have to play the waiting game on this one.
