The third installment of Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise is well underway. The first Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 trailer is now available, and if the excitement is anything to go by, we can’t resist this series’ half-chewed animatronics any more than a seven-year-old can resist bad pizza delivered by a singing mouse.

The most noteworthy thing about the Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 trailer is the vague narration delivered by flickering text. “He will come back,” it hisses. “He always does. We have a place for him.”

The next question, of course, is “Who is he?” The trailer briefly shows us a new animatronic, a spasming golden rabbit that may be some kind of parallel to the previous games’ legendary “Golden Freddy” character. Whoever this newcomer is, he makes Frank the Rabbit from Donnie Darko look positively huggable.

The Steam Greenlight page for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 is now active, and there are some interesting screenshots. We see parts from the shiny plastic “toy” animatronics that featured in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 stuffed in a box. We also see a menu for a possible “system reboot” of the facility’s ventilation, cameras, and audio devices – all of which have big red “ERROR” markers beside them. Aw, it’s just a building full of bloodthirsty man-sized puppets. Who needs things like cameras?

(Protip: YOU DO.)

No release date is set for Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 just yet, but if the previous two projects are any indication, Scott works fast. Get a good night’s sleep while you can.
