Yo-ho-ho, me hearties! It be the 19th of September, and we all know what that means: it’s Talk Like a Pirate Day once more!

But we aren’t content with landlubbers that just talk like pirates, oh no. We want you to play like pirates, too. So drop anchor, pull out your mobile cutlass, and get ready to dig up these buried treasures.

Assassin’s Creed Pirates

pirates1[1]Black Flag was a fantastic Assassin’s Creed game, and the parts that took place on the high seas were a big part of that. Ubisoft wisely took that section and spun it off into it’s own mobile game.

Temple of the Spider God

screen1136x1136[1]Gamebook Adventures is a fantastic series who like to mix their role-playing with a healthy dose of reading (you can buy them all in a bundle on the App Store, should that strike your fancy). The seventh book, Temple of the Spider God, has players set sail on an adventure in search of… well, I guess the title gives it away.

Plunder Pirates

plunderpirates1Do you wish Clash of Clans came with a healthy dose of grog and a few eyepatches? If so, this should be a dream come true.

Crimson: Steam Pirates

skull_combat2[1]Harebrained Schemes, the makers of Shadowrun Returns, took a shot at creating a world of steampunk piracy a few years ago. The results were fantastic.

Pirate Bash

piratebashguide_03A little bit of Worms, a little bit of Angry Birds, and a whole lot of yo-ho-ho.

Ninja Raft

screen1136x1136[1]Pirates and ninjas have been locked in an endless war for centuries. In Ninja Raft, you’ll build a floating ninja base in an attempt to keep pirates away from your gold.

screen1136x1136[2]The title says it all – well, except for how much fun you’ll have with it. Kids games often feel dumbed down. This one managed enough fun to appeal to parents and their little ones alike.

Down Among the Dead Men

screen1024x1024[1]Wish you could find your copy of Treasure Island? Don’t worry – inkle’s put together a brand new read for Talk Like a Pirate Day. And like all of their past works, it’s much more “Choose Your Own Adventure” than it is classic prose.

Monkey Island 2 SE: LeChuck’s Revenge!

mzl.vdoqnwzx.1024x1024-65[1]You can’t do a list about pirate games without mentioning Monkey Island.  tried once, and I was made to walk the plank. To make up for it, we’ve selected the best of the Monkey Island games to include. If you enjoy point and click adventures, they don’t get any better than this.

Epic Pirates Story

epicpiratestoryIf you’ve always wanted Kairosoft to make a high seas adventure (that isn’t about cruises), Epic Pirates Story is the next best thing. Build up a small island to become the fearsome Pirate King!

Sid Meier’s Pirates!

screen960x960[1]A stunning remake of an Amiga-era classic, Sid Meier’s Pirates offers up a great mix of swashbuckling and ship combat.

Deep Loot

DeepLoot_Screengrab_02Deep sea divers like to “think” they’re not pirates, but really, they’re just cowardly ones. How hard is it to take treasure from the bottom of the ocean, when whatever crew dropped it there is long gone and/or dead?

Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart

16913d1335792743-nightmares-deep-cursed-heart-[screenshot-preview]-1550907125[1]Easily one of the best hidden object games we checked out back in our days of casual PC coverage, this HOPA has a little bit of everything that fans of the genre love best.

screen1136x1136[1]What good would a list of pirate games be without  the most fearsome pirates of all?: SPACE PIRATES!

Scurvy Scallywags

screen1024x1024[1]If you think that every match-3 RPG is the same, think again. Ron Gilbert, the mad genius behind the Monkey Island games, takes a fairly fresh stab at the genre with this game of puzzle combat.

screen1024x1024[1]An oldie, but a goodie. Plunderland came out back in 2010, and has players tilting their phone to control their ship and dragging their finger to shoot cannons.

Age of Booty: Tactics

age-of-booty-screen[1]Deck-building meets deck-swabbing? Sort of! Tackle turn-based multiplayer with a myriad of online opponents.

Tradewinds 2

mzl.dolccmpl.320x480-75[1]The last surviving mobile entry in a classic casual franchise, Tradewinds 2 represents everything people love about the series: namely, trade. Buy, sell, and lob cannons. It’s all in a days work, buccaneer.

IMG_0070[1]Out on the open water? You’d better come back with a Big Fish story. This one, courtesy of Big Fish Games (see what I did there?) offers up a gently strategic take on navigating the Carribbean.
