If you like reading and playing, and you own a mobile phone, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve enjoyed more than a few gamebooks in recent years. And if you have, there’s an even better chance you’ve enjoyed gamebooks released by Tin Man Games. Whether it’s the Gamebook Adventures series, Fighting Fantasy adaptations, or their splendid Judge Dredd book, Tin Man has become synonymous with quality path-choosing narratives.

But isn’t everything just a little bit prettier with pictures?

awf_screen02For their next adaptation, they’ll be tackling a classic Steve Jackson Fighting Fantasy novel with a brand new spin: they’re creating an interactive comic book.

Considering the theme of Appontment With F.E.A.R. is superheroes, this is a perfect place for Tin Man Games to start playing with the idea of interactive comics.

“This is our first foray into a new area for interactive fiction and gamebooks,” said Tin Man’s creative director Neil Rennison in the game’s official press release.

awf_screen03“Appointment with F.E.A.R. cried out to be presented in a new and stylised way and as the new engine started coming together visually, we knew we were on to something pretty special. We’re looking forward to getting our teeth into some other comic book licenses in the future too!”

In addition to the visual-heavy narrative, Tin Man Games is always using Appointment with F.E.A.R. to introduce another new element to their gamebooks: trading cards that they’ll earn as they make decisions, and that they can swap with their friends via Facebook.

Gamebook and comic book fans alike can look forward to this one at the end of August.
