Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Revolution Software.  In this game, you take on the role of George and Nico as they investigate multiple murders and an artistic conspiracy that could determine the fate of the world.  Gamezebo’s walkthrough will provide you with detailed images, tips, information, and hints on how to play your best game.

General Tips

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Although it was split into two separate releases, Episode Two is merely the second half of Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse.  All of the gameplay aspects and interactions are the same as Episode One.  For details on how to play the game, please refer to the beginning of our walkthrough for the first half of the game.
  • If you have already played Episode One, Episode Two should be part of an update to your copy of the game.  Thus, you will need to use your save file from the first half of the game to continue into the second half.  If you have lost or deleted your save file, you can download saves from the Revolution Software website here.  This will prevent having to replay all of Episode One again.
  • If your save file is still accessible and the last time you played the game was to finish it, your autosave should start you at the right spot.  If you were playing an earlier portion, you’ll have to reload an old save (ideally the one closest to the 50% point) and play through the game until the end, at which point Episode Two will automatically begin.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Episode Two gives a short recap of what happened in Episode One, but here’s a slightly more detailed version (spoilers for Episode One, of course): At the start of the game, George is visiting an art gallery as the insurer for a number of works there, including the painting “La Maledicció.”  A thief bursts in, steals “La Maledicció,” and murders the gallery owner.  George is tasked with getting the painting back by both his company, but also an inspector Langham from Interpol.  George enlists the help of his journalist friend, Nico, to help.
  • They soon learn that the painting is owned by a Mr. Medovsky, the same man who owns the security company that installed the gallery’s faulty security system.  Nico also meets a man named Marques who claims to be the painting’s real owner, and who has proof of such through an old family photograph.  George and Nico track down the painting’s restorer, Hobbs, and learn that he’s found a secret layer to “La Maledicció” depicting an ouroboros.  A priest, Father Simeon, who was present at the time of the gallery owner’s murder warns that “La Maledicció” is the work of the devil; this priest is also murdered by an unknown assailant.
  • George and Nico finally track the painting down to Hobbs’ studio; he has both the original and a forgery that he’s created in order to hide the original.  They find Hobbs dead, and soon after discovering the real “La Maledicció” are trapped in the studio by a fire.  George and Nico escape through a skylight with the painting in hand and see inspector Langham walking away from the fire.  They realize that he’s hunting down the painting, but not in order to catch a killer; he is the killer.  The painting is important because it’s essentially a map to an ancient artifact, the Tabula Veritatis, which is a powerful religious item said to be able to raise Lucifer.  George and Nico are determined to find the Tabula before Langham or anyone else with evil intentions can get to it.

Part 1

Overview: After escaping Hobbs’ studio while it’s on fire, George and Nico arrive at the Castell des Sants in Spain, where the Tabula Veritatis is supposed to be.  Although it appears deserted, upon reaching the gate, someone fires a shot at them.  Someone has beat them to the Castell, but they still need to get inside.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • George is going to sneak inside while Nico distracts the gunman.  You’ll take control of Nico first.
  • Pick up the HELMET next to Nico in the grass.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, combine HELMET with MOP to get MOP WITH HELMET.
  • Where Nico was first standing is a crumbled part of the wall with a metal topper.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use MOP WITH HELMET on this section of wall.  Nico distracts the shooter and George runs into the garden.
  • You’re now in control of George, who is face-to-face with an old “friend,” a goat.  He needs to distract the shooter again.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Try to take an apple from the tree he’s crouched next to.  The goat will butt George and knock him back.
  • Interact with the tree again.  George prepares for the goat attack by turning and saying “Oh, heck!”
  • Quickly move your cursor below George and click when it says “Dodge.”  George will dodge the goat and he’ll ram into the apple tree.
  • Pick up the APPLES from the ground.
  • If you want to clean up some of your inventory, you can give FLOWERS to the goat and he’ll eat them.  If you interact with him a few times, he’ll eat Hobbs’ sketch, and Nico’s rejected photograph.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select APPLES.  Use APPLES on the pile of bottles near the car.
  • The goat walks over to eat the apple.
  • Quickly click on the tire (tyre).  George moves it closer to the pile of apples.
  • Use APPLES on the pile of apples.  The goat can now reach the pile and will be distracted for awhile.  George throws the rest of his apples onto the pile.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Take the SIDE MIRROR from the car.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select SIDE MIRROR.  Use SIDE MIRROR on the sun in the sky.  (It’s in the upper center part of the screen.)
  • George uses the mirror to temporarily blind the shooter and makes a dash for the house.
  • Speak to the old man.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Select “friend.”
  • Select “Marques.”  A young woman appears and holds a different gun to George.
  • Select “Eva.”
  • Select “Marques.”  She requests proof that you know Marques, her father.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Show her “La Maledicció.”  She takes you inside to Marques.
  • He places the painting back above the fireplace and says that with it in its rightful place, the path to the tabula is supposed to be revealed.  However, the room has changed since the last time the painting was here and he asks for George’s help in figuring out the secret.
  • In your inventory, look at the MARQUES FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH (right-click on it).  You’ll enter a close-up.
  • Examine the statues on the fireplace mantel.  Exit the photograph.
  • Examine the mantelpiece.  You’ll enter a close-up.
  • Examine the plinths.  Exit the close-up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Speak to Marques.
  • Select “painting” twice.
  • Select “Castell dels Sants.”
  • Select “Tabula Veritatis” twice.
  • Select “Medallion.”
  • Select “Hobbs’ sketch.”
  • Exit the conversation.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Walk to the left.  Pick up GREEN STATUE from the ground.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Walk through the door.  Pick up BROKEN GREEN STATUE from the short wall.
  • Return to the great hall, then exit through the front door to the garden.
  • Eva and Nico are having a chat outside.  Apparently Eva and her father don’t really get along; she doesn’t believe in Gnosticism.  Nico goes inside to explore while Eva stands guard.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Pick up the BLUE STATUE from the ground and the BROKEN BLUE STATUE from the fountain.
  • Examine the sundial.  You’ll learn that the main doors of the house face north.
  • Go back inside the house.  Speak to Nico.  She mentions the fireplace is the same as the one in the MARQUES FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, examine SIMEON’S PAPERS (right-click on them).  You’ll enter a close-up of the passages.  The second part is of interest to us right now.  It says that “clad in blue,” the Perfecti look towards the rising sun (the east).  And “clad in green,” the Credentes look towards the setting sun (the west).
  • Use MARQUES FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH on the mantelpiece to enter the close-up again.
  • We know from the sundial that the front door of this room faces the north.  So if a statue is facing to the right on the mantel, it’s facing north.
  • Place BROKEN GREEN STATUE on the left plinth.  Interact with the plinth 6 times to turn it to the west (it only rotates counter-clockwise).
  • Place BLUE STATUE on the right plinth.  Interact with this plinth 6 times to turn it to the east.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • The statues should match the image above.  Once you have the statues in the right position, a secret entrance will open in the fireplace and George and Marques enter it.  Nico is left outside and a piece of paper with the word “WOLFRAM” on it floats out of the fireplace.  Ramon says he curses that name.
  • Nico speaks to Ramon.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Select “Wolfram.”
  • Select “Xavier.”
  • Select “Gehnen” twice.
  • Select “Castell dels Sants.”
  • Select “Library.”  Ramon says he lost the key to the library; he hid it and after drinking, forgot where he hid it.  Nico needs to find it.
  • You’ll be in control of Nico now.  If you speak to Ramon again and ask about the library, he mentions waking up in the old car.
  • Exit out the front door to the garden.
  • Exit to the old car (where the goat is).

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Interact with the goat.  The goat seems to like Nico.
  • Interact with the car door.  Nico opens it and you get a close-up of the inside.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Interact with the pillow.  Take the book from underneath the pillow.  It’s Ramon’s diary; he mentions hiding the key and loving a lady with blue eyes.  After you’re done reading, the goat steals the diary.
  • Exit the close-up and return to the fountain.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the wind-chimes to enter a close-up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the tin can.  Take the key that’s inside the can.  It’s the CASTELL LIBRARY KEY.
  • Go back in the front door.
  • Exit through the door that leads to the back, exterior hallway.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select CASTELL LIBRARY KEY.  Use the key on the library door here.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the trunk in the corner to enter a close-up.
  • Take the map.  Nico reviews it and finds a lot of markings and scribbles.  We then cut to George and Marques in the chapel.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Marques tells George the story of what the fresco in the chapel depicts: his people, the Cathars, fleeing during a Crusade intended to wipe them out.  Only a few survived, but they kept with them the secret of the Tabula Veritatis.
  • George notes there must be a reason the painting led them to this chapel; they need to find its secret.
  • Speak to Marques.
  • Select “fresco.”  Marques notes that each of the Cathars in the painting are carrying tabulas, which must have been to hide the destination of the real one.
  • Feel free to ask about anything else; exit the conversation.
  • Examine either one of the statues on the sides of the fresco.  Marques explains that they are Jehovah and Lucifer and that Gnostics worship them together in balance.
  • Examine the glass lens being held by Jehovah.  George notes it can be rotated.
  • Examine the glass lens again to enter a close-up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Interact with the leather cover.  George removes it and light shines through onto the fresco.
  • Exit the close-up.  Do the same thing with Lucifer’s lens: examine the glass lens, then examine it again to enter a close-up.  Remove the leather cover to allow light to stream through and exit the close-up.
  • Examine the fresco.  You’ll enter a close-up and George will read the Latin inscriptions.  You can examine the different parts of the fresco individually to learn a bit more about it.  The light from the lenses is creating yellow spots all over the fresco.
  • Exit the close-up.  Feel free to speak to Marques again, although it’s not necessary.  He has a lot more dialogue options now.
  • We need to get the right color of light onto the fresco.  If you remember Simeon’s papers, they say “pure light, white light will win.”
  • In equal measures, green, blue, and red will create white.
  • Examine the lenses again and operate them to rotate the disk.  Make Jehovah’s lens green and Lucifer’s lens blue.  Exit the lens close-ups.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select SAFETY MATCHES.  Use SAFETY MATCHES on the candelabrum.  George will light the candle.
  • In your inventory, select MEDALLION.  Use MEDALLION on the candelabrum.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • The light shines on the fresco and displays the true path of the tabula.  It’s the town on the southern part of the fresco, with a distinctive shield of arms.  Make a mental note of this shield: blue with white birds and red and white stripes.
  • George and Marques leave the chapel; Nico calls George to the library and asks him to bring the painting.
  • Take the painting off the mantel.  You’ll have LA MALEDICCIÓ again.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Left of the door leading to the library, examine the shield that matches the one from the fresco.  It’s in the upper-left corner of the room.  It reads “Berga.”
  • Exit the door toward the library.  Marques sends Eva with George and the two of you enter the library.
  • Nico shows them Gehnen’s map; she believes he was comparing the painting to the map, believing it would lead to the tabula.
  • Examine the map to enter a close-up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • You need to find the four locations that correspond to the orbs in “La Maledicció.”
  • We don’t know all of the locations yet.  Exit the close-up.
  • Examine the trunk in the corner.
  • Pick up the hat to move it.
  • Pick up the shirt to move it.  There’s a note beneath it.  Pick up the note to receive TELEGRAM.
  • In your inventory, examine the TELEGRAM (right-click on it).

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • To decipher the TELEGRAM, click on a letter in the note and then click on the row of keys to substitute a letter for it.  It will automatically replace all letters in the telegram with the new letter.  Only one letter is substituted for each letter, so if you use a letter and then use it somewhere else, it will be removed from the first assigned letter.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • We don’t know the cipher, but we can guess what it’s about.  Change the first three words so they read “The tabula veritatis”
  • Continue substituting letters that make sense until you’ve filled in all the blanks.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • The TELEGRAM reads: “The Tabula Veritatis was smuggled out of Montesgur to Catalonia by a group of Cathar survivors STOP I have confirmed this from confessions extracted by the Dominican inquisitor Eymerich of Girona STOP Wolfram STOP”
  • Exit the close-up of the trunk.  Examine the map again.  We know the four locations:

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • 1) We know Berga is one of the locations thanks to the shield.  Pick up a pin by clicking on the box of pins and click on Berga to place it.
  • 2) Monsegur (north of Berga) was a key location on the fresco.  Put a pin in Monsegur.
  • 3) The TELEGRAM told us Girona (far east side of the map) was important; put a pin in Girona.
  • 4) The fourth location is Sant Ramon.  We learned Ramon was named after Saint Ramon, who had a padlock through his mouth—the same as the one pictured on “La Maledicció.”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Once you’ve placed all four pins, the line they create will point to Montserrat, a monastery in the mountains.
  • Just then, Langham—who is really Gehnen, the original Gehnen’s grandson—appears and kidnaps Marques.  He intends to find the tabula and raise Lucifer.  He locks the library doors and leaves George, Nico, and Eva trapped inside.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the bullet hole in the wall.  George notices there’s daylight streaming in.
  • Interact with the bullet hole.  George activates the false wall and the three of you escape outside.  You head for Montserrat.

Part 2

Overview: George and Nico have uncovered the secret of La Maledicció and who was behind all the murders: Langham, aka Gehnen.  They must hurry to the location of the Tabula Veritatis, Montserrat, in order to find the tabula before Gehnen and rescue Marques.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Montserrat is a monastery on a mountain, but there’s a thriving tourist destination just below that.  When you arrive, there are strangely no tourists, just a few thugs with guns.
  •  If you speak to the guards, they make up excuses for why you can’t go up to the monastery.  You can try to have Nico charm them, but no luck there, either.  You’re not getting past the guards right now.
  • Go down the stairs to the southeast of the guards, near the bench.  George, Nico, and Eva take the cable car farther down the mountain.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Head inside the cable car building.  As you’re walking towards the door, Langham emerges with another guard.  Our heroes quickly hide and overhear him instruct that all routes to the monastery be closed and that they interrogate Marques further.  Apparently they haven’t found the tabula yet.
  • Eva decides to follow Langham alone in the hopes she can slip through by herself.  George and Nico decide to find another way up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the glint in the cable car.  George can’t quite make out what it is.
  • Interact with the telescope.  You’ll enter a close-up where you can look at areas more closely.
  • To move the telescope lens, click on an area and drag the lens towards it.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Drag to the left until you come to a rock face.  Examine the rock face.
  • George notes it’s the same face as the one in “La Maledicció.”  He realizes that the tabula is probably near that mountain, not at the monastery.  Langham will not know this since his copy of “La Maledicció” is forged and doesn’t feature the face.
  • Interact with the telescope again.
  • Drag to the left, past the rock face, until you see the Santa Cova chapel.  Examine it.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Drag back to the right until you can see the suspended yellow cable car.  Examine the glint.  George notices it’s Duane and Pearl Henderson (from previous Broken Sword games).
  • Examine the glint again and George notes he needs to signal back to them.
  • Drag up slightly and examine the cable car runner.  Exit the telescope close-up.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select SIDE MIRROR.  Use SIDE MIRROR on the glint in the cable car.  George signals at Pearl.
  • Interact with the telescope again.  It will automatically pan back to Pearl, who writes a message on the cable car door.  She says they are stuck, and the door code is 0797.
  • Exit the telescope close-up.  Enter the cable car station door that Langham just exited.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Pick up the LUNCH BOX off the ground near the counter.  It’s a “talking lunch box,” according to George, but we don’t have the key to open it yet.
  • Interact with the cupboard.  There’s a person inside.
  • Speak to the cupboard; the woman inside refuses to come out until she knows it’s safe.
  • Interact with the console on the left side of the screen.  It’s too complicated for George.
  • Interact with the lever.  The cogs move but some fail to engage.
  • Interact with the hatch on the front side of the console.  George opens it, but it’s also too complex.
  • In your inventory, combine PAPERCLIP with LUNCH BOX.  Apparently the lock is too well designed to be picked…

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory select LUNCH BOX.  Use LUNCH BOX on the cogs in the bottom-right corner of the room.
  • Interact with the lever again to move the cogs.  They break open the lunch box.
  • Pick up the now-open lunch box.  George gets the two-way radio from inside.  Duane and Pearl are on the other end.  They apparently know the girl who’s locked herself in the closet, Kat.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select RADIO.  Use RADIO on the cupboard door.
  • Pearl coaxes Kat out of the closet.  She shows George the sabotaged console; the fuse in back needs to be reconnected somehow, but you also need a way to reach the fuse without getting electrocuted.
  • Walk over to the gears where the lunch box is sitting.  There is some jam on one of the gears.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use PAPER CLIP on the jam.  You now have STICKY PAPER CLIP.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the open hatch of the console again.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use MATCHBOX CONTAINING COCKROACH on the front part of the console.  It will say “Front” when you hover over it.
  • In your inventory, select STICKY PAPER CLIP.  Use STICKY PAPER CLIP on Trevor the cockroach.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select PIECE OF RICH TEA BISCUIT.  Use PIECE OF RICH TEA BISCUIT on the prongs of the fuse that has been destroyed.
  • George throws the biscuit onto the prongs and Trevor follows.  The paperclip gets stuck in the prongs and completes the circuit.
  • Kat gets the cable cars moving again and George and Nico automatically head down towards the mountain with the face.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • You’ll be in control of Nico.  Head inside the chapel door.
  • Now you’re in control of George again, for some reason.  Pearl and Duane Henderson are inside, lamenting their ruined vacation.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Walk to the right and speak to Duane.
  • Ask about “Duane.”
  • Ask about “Pearl.”
  • Ask about “Santa Cova chapel.”
  • Ask about “Spiritual experience.”
  • George learns that Pearl knows all about Santa Cova, but she’s too distraught to talk about it right now.  She was expecting a grand spiritual experience here but the building is empty and under construction.
  • Speak to Duane again.  Ask about “whistling.”  Duane was whistling “Ave Maria” by Schubert, one of Pearl’s favorite songs.  Exit the conversation.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • If you noticed Duane’s whistling, the musical notes for the song are visible above his head.  They are: “G, F#, G, B, A, G”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Interact with the toolbox behind Duane.  Take from the toolbox to get MASON’S HAMMER.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Take the BOTTLE OF TURPENTINE from the shelf.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Pick up the WOOD SHAVINGS off the ground.
  • Interact with the scaffold.  Everything shakes and makes a “dulcet noise,” according to George.
  • After shaking the scaffold you can now interact with its individual objects.
  • In your inventory, select MASON’S HAMMER.  Use the MASON’S HAMMER on one of the paint cans.
  • The MASON’S HAMMER will be your permanent active item for the moment.
  • The paint cans make the sound of “A.”  The oil drum makes the sound of “G.”  The fire extinguisher makes the sound of “B.”
  • Click outside of the scaffold area to stop using the hammer.
  • In your inventory, select BOTTLE OF TURPENTINE.  Use BOTTLE OF TURPENTINE on the second paint can (the one that’s hanging slightly lower).  Now hitting this can with your hammer produces “F#.”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Equip the MASON’S HAMMER.  Hit the items in that order, or the following: oil drum, paint can with turpentine, oil drum, fire extinguisher, empty paint can, oil drum.
  • When you first start pounding on the items, Nico will walk over and you won’t be able to do anything while she’s walking.  Once she’s next to you, start over from the beginning and do the whole sequence in one go.  At the end, Nico will ask to try and she’ll automatically play the tune with her mop.
  • You still need the “smells” part of the experience.  Walk to the left where the Madonna is.  Examine the candelabra near the ceiling.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use the crank handle on the wall to lower the candelabra.
  • In your inventory, select SAFETY MATCHES.  Use SAFETY MATCHES on the candelabra to light it.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use SIDE MIRROR on the candelabra.
  • Use YARN on the candelabra and SIDE MIRROR.  George ties the mirror to the candelabra.
  • In your inventory, select EAU DE TOILETTE.  Use EAU DE TOILETTE on the WOOD SHAVINGS.  You’ll now have POTPOURRI.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use POTPOURRI on the builder’s mug on the altar.
  • Use SAFTEY MATCHES on the builder’s mug containing POTPOURRI.  The sweet smell begins to fill the room.
  • Use the crank handle to raise the candelabra again.
  • Once raised, all three aspects—sights, smells, and bells—are now in place.
  • Note: if you took too long to do anything or you used your MASON’S HAMMER on another item, Nico may have stopped playing “Ave Maria.”  If this happens, you’ll need to play the notes again and she’ll take over again.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Pearl will pray to the Madonna and then be back to her normal self.  Speak to Pearl.
  • Select “Black Madonna.”
  • Select “Santa Cova.”
  • Select either HOBBS’ SKETCH or LA MALEDICCIÓ.  Pearl will comment on the painting and say that there is an ouroboros somewhere in the chapel, although the workmen covered it up when they renovated in the early 20th century.  You need to find it.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select MASON’S HAMMER.  Use the MASON’S HAMMER on the altar.  George will smash the plaster and uncover the ouroboros.
  • Interact with the ouroboros; nothing happens.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Walk over to the candles Pearl was previously standing in front of.  Take a CANDLE.
  • Walk back to the altar.  Use CANDLE on the recess in the wall above the altar.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Use SAFETY MATCHES on the recess with the candle.  George hears a noise after lighting the candle.  You now only have one MATCH in your inventory.
  • Interact with the ouroboros symbol again.  A secret passageway in the rock face opens up; Nico and George enter a dark cave and the door shuts closed behind them.
  • Nico tries to find a way to open the door while George forges ahead into the dark cave.
  • There are a lot of mysterious objects to examine in the dark (including a “squidgy hole”), but you need to find a light source to proceed.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the “stone object” on the right side of the room.  George describes what sounds like a candle or torch.
  • In your inventory, select MATCH.  Use MATCH on the stone object on the right side of the screen.  The room is lit up and George and Nico find not only Gehnen’s dead body (the original Gehnen), but a Gnostic shrine to Mary Magdalene.
  • You still need to find a way out of the shrine.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Examine the table Gehnen is laying on.  (Examining anything near Gehnen with a magnifying glass, like the lamp, will enter the same close-up.)

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Take the artefact.  It is the TABULA VERITATIS.
  • Take the photograph.  You now have GEHNEN’S PHOTOGRAPH; it is a translation of the symbols on the tabula.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Take the map to get GEHNEN’S MAP.
  • Take the pistol to get REVOLVER.
  • Use GEHNEN’S MAP on the lamp at the table.  The words disappear and hidden letters appear instead.  George believes they match up to the locations on the photograph.
  • In your inventory, combine TABULA VERITATIS with GEHNEN’S PHOTOGRAPH.
  • George will decipher the TABULA with the clues Gehnen left behind.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Similar to the cipher puzzle, you need to click on one of the TABULA inscriptions and then select the corresponding word from the list on the right-hand side of the screen.  There are three pages of available words that you can scroll through.
  • Gehnen’s translations are at the bottom; you’ll need to use this to figure out what individual symbols mean.  For example, an upside-down triangle means “God” while a right-side up triangle means “mountain.”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • The final phrase you need to decipher is: “Begin / Sun City / Travel / Five / Day / East / River / Travel / South / Six / Day / Desert / Source / Four / River”

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • Once you’ve finished deciphering all the symbols, George reads it aloud and then Nico points out she’s found a secret button in the tabula mural.  However, pushing it seems to do nothing at the moment.
  • Examine the lamp near Gehnen again.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Episode 2

  • In your inventory, select MEDALLION.  Use MEDALLION on the carved filigree above the lamp.  Place it in the top spot.
