Last year, a new development studio was formed by a veritable team of superstar gamemakers, though we didn’t know what they were actually working on… until now! Firewatch will be the first title from game studio Campo Santo, according to their website.
A website for the game has cropped up as well, offering a brief synopsis.
“In Firewatch you play as a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness,” the website states. “Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe.”
During “an especially hot and dry summer” Henry is pulled from his post by strange occurrences in the wilderness. During the game, you will “explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.”
That relationship is with a woman named Delilah, Henry’s supervisor. Delilah is available to Henry via portable radio and stands as his only contact with the outside world.
The wilderness setting and exploration sound similar to Gone Home, but the choice-driven conversations evoke shades of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.
That’s not surprising that Campo Santo was co-founded by former Telltale Games creative director and designer, Jake Rodkin, and writer/designer Sean Vanaman. Other members of the studio include Nels Anderson, lead designer from Mark of the Ninja, graphic designer Olly Moss and composer, designer and Double Fine community manager Chris Remo.
With an all-star team at the helm and a very unique concept you can bet we’re excited to see the game hit Windows, Mac and Linux in 2015.
