You know what the world doesn’t have enough of? Kart racers. The days when Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing inspired a legion of copycats are long behind us. Sure we’ve had the occasional gem in recent years like KartRider Dash and Sonic All-Stars, but there isn’t anything on the horizon that can settle your craving for karts… is there?
There is – and it hates Mondays.
Today at Gamescom, Anuman Interactive announced that they have a multi-platform kart racer in the works starring Garfield, Odie, Jon, Nermel and… four other characters. I’ll be honest, I don’t know Garfield as well as I used to. What’s the name of the vet that Jon is always trying to score with? Joan? Liz?
Whatever. She’s in there too.
The Fast and the Furry-ous
The developers are promising 16 different tracks that provide racers varying paths to reach the finish line, which is exactly what you’d want in a good kart racer. The real twist, though, is that the game will offer 6-player multiplayer across multiple platforms. This means you’ll be able to jump behind the wheel as Odie on your iPhone while your friends strap in on their PC, Mac, iPad and/or Android, and you’ll all compete head-to-head.
There’s no word yet on what the power-ups might be (PRO-TIP FOR DEVELOPERS: lasagna), but you won’t have too long to wait to find out. Garfield Kart should be making its first lap around the track this October.
And if you can’t wait until then, you can always read this actual Garfield story by Jim Davis that will haunt your nightmares and destroy your childhood. Though if you’d rather keep your sanity intact, we recommend Garfield Minus Garfield. (Just because your sanity is intact doesn’t mean Jon’s is).
