Zeboyd Games has announced their next highly anticipated project today on the developer’s official website. The game will be a new RPG called Cosmic Star Heroine, which draws inspiration from past role-playing greats like Chrono Trigger. Zeboyd Games are the folks behind cult PC titles like Cthulhu Saves the World, and most recently Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episodes 3 and 4.
Cosmic Star Heroine will revolve around the adventures of Alyssa L’Salle, who uncovers a dark conspiracy inside the galactic government, and gets revealed by her own home organization as a legendary spy. Zeboyd Games released a single piece of concept art to accompany the announcement, and it just so happens to be a view of Alyssa in all of her legendary spy action.
While details about the upcoming RPG are still a bit scarce, here’s what we do know so far: the futuristic sci-fi setting will be brought to life by 2D pixel art with more animated ally sprites than previous Zeboyd titles. Turn-based combat will occur on the same maps that you adventure on, and the studio’s well-known humor is said to remain very much intact.
Zeboyd Games plans to launch a Kickstarter later on this year to help fund the new project, and promises to provide regular and all-inclusive updates throughout every step of the development process. While the specific platforms that Cosmic Star Heroine will ultimately appear on are still up in the air, it should be noted that the game is being created with Unity, so multiple platforms can certainly be an option down the road.
