How to Play:

  • Starting Up: When you first fire up the game, you’ll be greeted with your “starter pack”.  The starter pack includes players in every position of the game from catcher to outfielders.  It also includes some “big impact” cards, but we’ll get more on these topics later.  The starter pack is simply there to get you going, and you won’t need to review anything in much detail at this point.

  • Playing a Game:  From the main menu, shown above—select “play”.  From there, you will have the option of playing in the “Pennants” or just playing a quick game with friends.
  • Game: The game plays out in front of you.  You have your cards and it is essentially a dice roll on who wins the game.  You can choose to watch the game, but watching it has no bearing on the outcome.  Unless you are super, ridiculously bored—just go ahead and skip to the end of your games.

  • Big Impact Cards: Before each game, if you have the cards to do it, you can select using “Big Impact” cards.  They can increase your likelihood of beating out close plays, not throwing walks, and so on.  These cards help in your dice rolls of winning, but aren’t necessarily a guarantee that you’ll win your match up.

  • Pennant: Pennant match-ups are what you’ll want to maintain most of your focus on if you want to play the game competitively.  These are 10 to 20 game competitions where you’ll play against teams for prizes.  The prizes vary depending on how you place—the higher you place, the better the prizes are obviously. You’ll gain both currency types, which will help you get different pack types that will help build your team up.

  • Levels: For every win, you gain 100 fans plus however many runs you’d scored in the game.  You also have a level bar. Once you gain a level, you’ll gain coins and buck bonuses that can be used to purchase packs.
  • Coins: Coins is the base currency of Big Win Football. The coins can be used to buy bronze and silver card packs, which will have lower level players and boosts.
  • Bronze Card Packs: Bronze card packs cost 175 coins and include bronze level players (the lowest in the game), big impact cards, bronze skill upgrades and contract cards.
  • Silver Card Packs: Silver card packs cost 1000 coins and include silver level players (third highest in the game), big impact cards, silver skill upgrades and contract cards.

  • Bucks: Bucks are the premium currency in the game.  Above are the prices where you can simply purchase bucks with cold hard cash to upgrade your team.  You can earn bucks by participating in Pennant events and by leveling your team.
  • Gold and Player Card Packs: For 10 bucks, you can purchase gold card packs which include the second best level of players, big impact cards and gold skill upgrades and contract cards.  With player packs, it costs 100 “bucks” and includes only players.  You get six players, most of them being gold players—but you also have a chance at “platinum” players—the best available in the game.

  • Contracts: Much like in actual baseball, contracts can be an issue.  Thankfully you don’t have to worry about contract holdouts, but each player has a base amount of games that they can play in before their skills diminish.  They can still play, but they’re only going to be playing at about half of their ability.  This can be an absolute killer.  Make sure you have contract cards to give to players, or at least players of similar skill to replace players.  Each player can only have their contract a set number of times (usually three) before they must be replaced by another player.
  • Injuries: Injuries can also be an issue.  Much like contracts, players can tough it out through injuries, but they’ll again be playing at half their ability.  It costs 100 coins to heal the injured player. Early on, if they’re an expendable player (bronze level) just see if you have another player card to replace them.  If not, just pony up the 100 coins and hope for a win to replace the lost scratch.
  • Energy: Energy determines if you can play a game or not.  If you play a lot of games in a row, you will run out of energy.  Thankfully, if so choose, you can get notifications from the game to let you know when your energy has returned so you can go back and play some more games, gain some coins and buy some packs and upgrade your team. You have energy to play ten games.

  • Editing Your Team: From the main menu, select “My Team”. From there, you can do a myriad of things to improve your team.
  • Skill Cards: This is perhaps the most important aspect of the game.  Especially starting out, your team is pretty bad.  Thankfully, you’ll be playing against other bad teams so it’s an even playing field.  To get an advantage, keep buying card packs and using the skill cards you acquire to upgrade your team.  They will help your team in the dice roll regarding victory and defeat.  The better your players are the better chance you have to win.  Makes sense right?
  • Tip Regarding Skill Cards:  Use your knowledge with regards to baseball.  Do you really need to upgrade your pitcher’s speed?  Should you spend gold skill cards on bronze players?  Make sure you’re using the right cards on the right players depending on their position, but also make sure that you’re upgrading players that can make the most of the card.  You can use gold cards that will only upgrade one player’s ability a couple of points, as opposed to 6-8 on another player.  No one player is important to your success—you just want your overall skill as high as possible to improve your chances of victory.
