As many of you can surely attest to, trying to play a console game on a touchscreen can be kind of a pain. The easiest way to get around this is to purchase a physical controller that’s compatible with your phone or tablet. Problem is, not all of those controllers are well-made, and many of the better ones are a bit on the pricy end. If you happen to own an Xperia phone and a PS3, you can kiss that problem goodbye: Sony is gearing up to provide official support for DualShock 3 controllers on Xperia devices.

As Xperia Blog describes, connecting the two is as simple as selecting “DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller” in the options menu, and then connecting the two via USB cable. Once that’s taken care of, you’re ready to fire up a game and enjoy the magic that is physical buttons.

With the many PS1 classics available on Xperia devices through the PlayStation Mobile service, this seems like a perfect fit. The only thing that would make it better is if Sony offered the same native support for phones of both the Android and iOS variety. But there are about a million reasons that could never happen, so I guess we’ll just have to be happy with this.
