Kongregate, one of the leading providers of browser-based free-to-play games, is expanding their focus to include downloadable titles. This marks a pretty major shift for the platform, and they’re kicking things off with the addition of Smashmuck ChampionsSuper Monday Night Combat, and Bomb Buddies.

“Our players are looking for increasingly sophisticated games,” said company co-founder and CEO Jim Greer in a press release. “Adding downloadable titles brings a new level of gaming to hardcore players looking for high-definition graphics with more options and content to select from.”

It’s also mentioned in the announcement that–despite leaving the comforts of the browser–all downloadable games will feature the same social features that Kongregate users have grown accustomed to. Ostensibly, this means a similar achievement system, as well as “Kreds,” the platform’s proprietary currency.

Users can check out all the downloadable offerings on this page. There are only three at the moment, but Kongregate intends to add more as time goes on.
