MathFeud Preview

It’s been argued that an inability to do math somehow makes you a lesser person. If you’ve been on the receiving end of such insults, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t true. But if that’s not enough to make you feel better, and you really wish to improve your number skills, Mathfeud is the game for you.

It’s been argued that an inability to do math somehow makes you a lesser person. If you’ve been on the receiving end of such insults, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t true. But if that’s not enough to make you feel better, and you really wish to improve your number skills, Mathfeud is the game for you.

If you’re weary of a game that wants to teach you math, I can’t say I blame you. But Mathfeud‘s layout gives it a very different feel than most games in the genre, and it has the potential to be very effective. Each math problem you field has a grid of numbers below it, and you must locate two connected blocks that feature the numbers you need. For example, if the question were ? + ? = 8, you’d have to find two numbers next to each other that equal eight.

Mathfeud is a multiplayer game, and you and another player will take turns fielding the exact same math problems. He who solves the most (or solves what’s provided the quickest) will emerge victorious, leaving their sad opponent in a pile of numbers and dust. If you find yourself pitted against someone with superior math skills, don’t get discouraged! The inclusion of blocks that dole out score multipliers levels the playing field a bit, making speedy problem solving not the only requirement for victory. It’s kind of like when you play the word “zoo” in Scrabble on a triple word score block, throwing your dictionary of a sibling into a fit of depression.

The game will be free to play, and launches on the App Store October 16. Call me crazy, but that seems like plenty of time to learn the Pythagorean Theorem and other such math-y things.
