Finding and pairing items

Move the mouse cursor around until you see sparkles. Providing you have the sparkle sound effects turned on in the options menu, you will also hear a sparkling sound. Select the sparkling object and a close-up view of the item will be displayed with a brief description of the item shown above. The found object will now be highlighted with a white circle. With the close-up view of the first item shown, the aim now is to select another object on the screen that can be paired with the first item. A dull noise will sound if the objects have not been paired correctly. When two objects are correctly paired, both close-ups will disappear and the score counter will be increased.

Scoring

The current score is displayed at the bottom-left corner of the game window. This increases with any positive action that is made in the game, such as correctly pairing items, selecting the correct conversation response or solving minigames.

Nancy’s Journal

As you progress through the game, Nancy’s journal is a very useful tool. Different tabs can be selected at the right side of the journal. The blue tab is Nancy’s notes, where you can view a description of the chapter (Journal Entries), documents or notes that were found in the chapter (Evidence) or any available movies that were viewed in the chapter. The purple tab gives detailed help on how to play the game. The red tab is the current detective ranking, which shows the current score and level achieved.

Action bar

The action bar is shown at the bottom of the screen, and features four icons that can be used at certain sections of the game. Only some objects in the game will respond to action commands. For example, a drawer may need to be pulled, a button may need to be pressed, etc.

Inventory

The mouse cursor will sometimes change to a magnifying glass with an inventory icon when it moves over some objects in the playing area. Selecting the object will this icon will add it to the inventory at the right side of the action bar. Items in the inventory can be read or used on other objects in the playing area.

Current goal and hidden objects

The current goal in the chapter is shown at the bottom-right corner of the game window. To the right of the goal is a small circle with a number in it. This number refers to the amount of objects in the location that haven’t been found yet. Sometimes correctly pairing two objects together will cause more hidden objects to be added to a location. All hidden objects must be found before Nancy can move on to the next chapter.

WALKTHROUGH

Chapter 1 – Introduction

The game starts with a tutorial in the reception area of the Redondo. After Cassidy finishes talking to Nancy, select the next button twice to cycle through the first two messages. Move the cursor over the flowers to see sparkles appear below the magnifying glass cursor:

Left click to select the flowers and then click the vase on top of the shelf at the right side of the room to pair the two items:

Click the OK button to see a message mentioning the papers should be put away. Select the papers on the couch at the left side of the room and pair them with the folder on the desk at the right side of Cassidy:

A white circle is shown on the folder, which means that it can still be used somewhere else. Select the folder and pair it with the drawer below the shelves at the right side of the room:

Nancy needs to pull the drawer open before she can put the folder in it, so select the drawer and then click the pull icon at the bottom of the screen. Select the folder on the desk again and pair it with the open drawer. Move the cursor over the letter opener on the desk near Cassidy to see the cursor change to an inventory icon. Select the object to add the letter opener to the inventory. Select the letter opener from the inventory and use it on the envelope on the table near the fish bowl at the left side of the room:

Select the letter to read it: It is a roster for employees of the Redondo:

Select OK twice to return to the game. Another message points out the hidden object counter at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Select OK twice to end the tutorial. A new task is now displayed at the bottom-right corner of the game window: Finish task list and snoop a little.

Select the task list on the desk at the left side of Cassidy’s monitor to add it to the inventory. Look at the task list in the inventory to read it:

Notice that the hidden object counter has now increased to 8. The eight hidden objects are shown below:

Let’s start by completing the first task on the list. Select the box of new shampoo bottles and pair it with the shampoo shelf. Select the box full of nail polish and pair it with the nail polish shelf. Select the broom leaning against the desk and pair it with the light above the reception desk to complete the second task. Take the glass cleaner on the desk and pair it with the display case at the bottom-left corner of the room to complete the third task. Lift the display case to see that the top of the harmonica is screwed on tight. Two more hidden objects appear:

Pull the drawer on Cassidy’s desk. Examine the open drawer to see a screwdriver. Pair the screwdriver with the harmonica to reveal a letter. Look at the letter, read through it and then exit the view of the letter to complete the chapter.

Chapter 2 – The Job

Nancy enters the office to talk to the boss of the resort, Mr. Bleski. You have the choice of selecting different responses and certain points in the conversations, although only one response is correct and you will earn more points if you select the correct one the first time. The correct responses are:

1: “investigate the bombings”

2: “go out there and fold towels?”

Bleski tells Nancy that folding towels is a code used in the hotel which means that someone has found a bomb and handed it in to the reception. Cassidy gives Nancy a map of the resort, a map of the garden maze and a note from the bomber.

Complete the small tutorial at the start of the letter grid minigame to learn how the letters are moved around. Matching a letter on the grid raises the letter’s gauge at the right side of the screen. The aim in the minigame is to raise all of the letter’s gauges to the top. Two icons are shown at the top-left corner of the screen. These are scramble (rearrange the positions of the letters on the grid) and hint (show a tile on the board that can be used to make a match). Make each letter (S, E, N, I and V) four times to raise the letter gauge to the top. Next, unscramble the letters to make the word Vines:

Select the Jungle room when Nancy looks at the resort map:

Chapter 3 – Grumble in the Jungle

After completing the minigame, select “explode” as the response to return to the reception area. Select the note on the desk to play the letter minigame again. This time, there are blank tiles on the grid. The blank tiles can be swapped around but cannot be used to make matches with any letters.
