Cartoon Universe is bringing classic toons to a new age
If you watched cartoons growing up (who didn’t?), chances are extremely likely you’ve grown up watching the Looney Tunes or Scooby Doo. These classic television series’ have seen so many reboots, re-runs, and adaptations that anyone from five years old to 50 has had a major serialized show feature these iconic characters. Warner Brothers, in hopes to create an iconic environment for children, has announced Cartoon Universe, a new online free-to-play world.
Developed by WB Games Montréal, Cartoon Universe aims to capture the fun of the cartoons in a way that allows young players to interact. Players can create their own Looney Tunes-esque character and go on their own adventures based on its newest iteration, The Looney Tunes Show.
Fans of the Scooby Doo series can travel off to a separate island in order to explore spooky environments and solve mysteries with the Mystery, Inc. gang. Zoinks!
“It’s a privilege to bring some of the most popular Warner Bros. characters to Cartoon Universe, a brand new interactive environment available online,” said Martin Carrier, Vice President and Studio Head, WB Games Montréal. “With Cartoon Universe being our first endeavor as a studio, we are benefiting from close collaboration with the different divisions of Warner Bros. Studios, which we will apply to all of our other games in development.”
Parents and children eager to get a sneak peak on Cartoon Universe can head over here to check out the beta. The next session starts May 31st, and the full game is set to hit Fall 2012. If it’s a hit, who knows what other WB series could be making their appearances to join the island? If Scooby Doo taught us anything, it’s that you’ll have to hold a little patience to solve the mystery.
