Playdek preps another tabletop gem for the App Store with Summoner Wars

Playdek is hard at work transforming another board/card game into the digital realm. This time it’s Summoner Wars, a fantasy-battle card game for two to four players. Are you excited at the prospect of being able to play Plaid Hat Games’ deep and involved card game on iOS? You should be. Playdek also handled the digital conversions of Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer and Nightfall, two more card games that work beautifully as iOS adaptations.

Summoner Wars takes place on a war-torn planet called Itharia, a world populated by beings who have the power to summon awesome magic and monsters onto the battlefield via Summoning Stones (yep, calling up and flinging around battle magic and dragons will tear up a planet in no time, that’s for sure). You and your friends play against each other as Summoners, and your goal is simple: domination.

While your goal may be simple, achieving it is a bit more difficult. You can play as different factions and races, including Elves (beings hungry for revenge) and Goblins (who simply “want to watch the world burn,” as they say). Whichever race you choose to play as, you’ll be dropped into the thick of Itharia’s war, so be prepared.

According to Playdek, the iOS adaptation of Summoner Wars features zoomable maps, impressive graphics, and lets you play with pals or with the game’s AI. Of course, you’ll want to play with your friends, and Summoner Wars has you covered with both a “Pass and Play” option that lets up to four people battle locally, or asynchronous multiplayer support for online play. There are also multiple save files, so if you really screw up one campaign, you can kind of tuck it under the couch and quietly begin another.

Summoner Wars is due out this spring. Keep up with Gamezebo for more information on Summoning For Dummies.
