In Mall Stars for iOS, you’re put in charge of your very own shopping center. What will you build? How will you attract customers in this lean age of digital shopping? If the answer is not “make every single store a Cinnabon,” then you need to rethink your priorities.

Mall Stars is developed by PlayFirst, the supercharged ladies and gentlemen behind the popular Diner Dash series. Unlike its Dash-ing cousins, Mall Stars is a little more casual and easy-going. You begin with a teensy mall that can hold three stores. The stores sell items of your choice, which all fly off the shelves at different rates. In order to keep turning a steady profit, you must keep on top of your stores and manage your fleet of supply trucks. As you bring in the dosh, you’re given the chance to expand.

But a mall is only as interesting as the people who populate it (seriously, go to your closest shopping center, buy yourself an ice cream, sit down, and just watch), which is why Mall Stars challenges you take special care of your patrons. Customers with specific needs demand your attention, and you must direct them to the appropriate store. It seems like the classic case of the woman who asks for the price of coffee while standing in front of a giant sign that screams the price right down to the last cent, but in Mall Stars, you’re rewarded with extra income—including premium currency—for your troubles.

Mall Stars also challenges you to complete quests, which involve meeting demand for certain stores. In other words, variety is the spice of life, and your All-Cinnabon Extravaganza will probably never come into fruition.

Mall Stars is currently available on the Canadian App Store, but not its American counterpart. Though there’s no final US release date yet, that should be rectified as soon as America steps up to regain its reputation as the Retail King of the World.
