Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 announced at PAX East, first time on iPad
Thanks to top notch releases like Shadow Era and Kard Combat, it’s become abundantly clear over the last year that trading card games (TCG’s) are a perfect match for touch screen devices. Despite this, the granddaddy of them all – Magic: The Gathering – still hadn’t made the transition. That’s about to change.
At PAX East this morning, Wizards of the Coast unveiled the follow-up to last year’s immensely popular digital adaptation Magic The Gathering- Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, appropriately dubbed Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013. In addition to a PC (and Xbox 360 and PS3) release, Magic 2013 will mark the series first entry on the iPad. Peanut butter and jelly, you’ve just been surpassed in the “greatest combinations ever” department.
Like Magic 2012, 2013 is going to be fairly new player friendly. In fact, I have Magic 2012 to blame for my own addiction to the franchise – so consider this upcoming release a perfect gateway into the world of card battling goodness. That said, there’s going to be plenty for series veterans to enjoy too, like Planechase multiplayer, new decks and challenges, a new option to manually tap lands, and a new boss – the dragon Planeswalker Nicol Bolas.
While there’s no word on a release date yet, they’re targeting to push this one out to the masses this summer. In the meantime, don’t be afraid to dive into Magic 2012 for a start lesson – it’s never the wrong time to learn Magic!
