A Game of Thrones – Genesis coming to PCs this summer
The official website has launched for A Game of Thrones – Genesis, the upcoming PC strategy game based on “A Song of Ice and Fire,” the series of epic fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin that is also being developed into a TV series by HBO.
Named after the first book in the series, A Game of Thrones – Genesis nevertheless takes place 1,000 years before the events of the first book begin. During that thousand-year span of history you’ll choose to play as one of the eight major houses of Westeros who are vying for the Iron Throne.
“From Nymeria’s arrival in the Kingdom of Dorne to the awakening of the “Others” beyond the Wall, you’ll live the origins of the A Song of Ice and Fire saga through more than 1000 years of history,” said publisher Focus Home Interactive. Players will take part in Westeros’ founding events and largest battles such as Aegon the Conqueror’s invasion on the continent or the War of the Usurper.
The game features a single-player campaign written under Martin’s supervision, as well as a multiplayer campaign that supports up to 8 players.
Intriguingly, it looks like players will be able to achieve victory in battle not only through military means. While the “brute force” method is option, players can also engage in economical warfare or even use diplomacy and dirty tricks to sabotage them politically.
The game is being developed by French studio Cyanide, which is best known for sports management sims like the Cycling Manager and Pro Rugby Manager, as well as videogames adaptations of the Blood Bowl boardgame.
A Game of Thrones – Genesis will be released on PC this summer.
