Fish Tales Preview

Whether we’re talking Tap Fish, Tap Reef, or Fantastic Fish, social aquarium games are a dime a dozen on the App Store these days. If a developer is looking to add to that collection, they’re going to have to make something really special to stand out. Like a fish that looks like a samurai. Or the Easter Bunny. Or maybe an AK-47!

Fish Tales will be swimming to the App Store soon, with a wacky assortment of breeds to raise

An upcoming aquarium game from developer Everywhere Inc, Fish Tales is looking to use these wacky fish to stand out in a sea of similar fish titles. Players will be able to select from a variety of unique breeds like the PharohMask, the HappyAviator, and the TerminatorFishy – as well as some simpler breeds – and attempt to sell their fish for fun and profit.

Rather than offering a breeding option as many aquarium games do, Fish Tales gives players the option to evolve a fish into an entirely new breed. For example, the FestClown can evolve into the CircusClown or the PokerClown – two entirely different breeds with two completely different appearances.

Players will also be able to decorate their environments with a variety of items, from Viking ships to toys that look suspiciously like Wall-E, or Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet.

We’ve recently had a chance to go hands-on with Fish Tales, and were pleasantly surprised by how vibrant and polished the fish looked. From what little we’ve seen, this one easily ranks up there with the best of the best in terms of visuals for the genre, even if things do lean away from realism and into the world of cartooniness.

We were also delighted to find a quest system in place that rewarded players with premium currency for reaching certain objectives – something that is unfortunately a rarity in most social games these days.

If you’re looking to get your hands wet with these wacky fishies, you won’t have long to wait. Fish Tales is expected to arrive on the App Store tomorrow.
