Facebook developer Playfish has announced that it’s cross-game virtual currency Playfish Cash will no longer be available, as the developer is now transitioning to the much more ubiquitous Facebook Credits.

As of today you’ll no longer be able to purchase Playfish Cash, instead a number of game-specific currencies are being introduced, such as “cooking cash” for Restaurant City and “empire cash” for My Empire. If you aleady have some Playfish Cash you’ll be able to convert it into the game-specific currency of your choice. You’ll even get an exclusive in-game gift for making the conversion.

“We believe Facebook Credits provide players with a secure, trusted way to pay for virtual goods and currencies while providing the flexibility to spend those credits across a large number of games on Facebook,” the developer explained on the Life at Playfish blog.
