Evil Angry Planet aims for a quick-paced blend of tower defense and real time strategy

Irate Games is certainly an ambitious little studio: its freshman iPhone game, Evil Angry Planet, looks like it may be one of the deepest tower defense games to come out in the App Store yet.

The basic gameplay is billed as being similar to regular tower defense titles, where players have to defend a point from incoming waves of enemies. However, what makes the game challenging is that the enemies don’t have set paths that they walk down, while players can construct “defense formations wherever they please.”

In fact, enemies will adapt to players’ defenses and skill levels, which means that the game will never feel too easy. The play experience will constantly change thanks to the ten different tower types and three different levels of upgrades. According to Irate Games, there are a total of 52 different turret variations. Meanwhile, there are six different enemy types, complete with individual strengths and weaknesses.

The game’s graphics are fully 3D, featuring bright, colorful designs and artwork that feels a bit reminiscent of pulp 1950s science fiction (sleek, retro towers and crazy giant bugs). Visually, it looks like the game will be both frantic but with a sense of goofy fun. From the look of things, the game will get pretty nuts when the enemy waves start to get tougher.

At the moment, the game is in its beta stage, and Irate Games is spending a little extra time to apply some spit and polish to the title. Irate is also planning to release DLC for the game (some of it free, even) that will include new defense modes, achievements, maps, and more.
