The Curse of the RIng – Game Introduction

Welcome to The Curse of the Ring walkthrough on Gamezebo. The Curse of the Ring is a hidden object/adventure game played on the PC created by Flywheel Games. This walkthrough includes tips and tricks, helpful hints, and a strategy guide to how to complete The Curse of the Ring.

How to Use this Walkthrough (Please read)

  • This walkthrough is meant to be used as a guide to assist in solving mini-puzzles and acquiring all items in order to complete the game.
  • Hidden objects are slightly different each time to you play the game and the hint system can help you if you are stuck. Screenshots will highlight the items to be found in that scene. Your game may be different.
  • Inventory objects will be written in bold. The walkthrough will state, “Use the inventory item on the blah blah,” because it assumes you have the item. If you don’t have the item, on your keyboard, press CTRL+F (at the same time). In the text box, type the name of the item you are looking for and press ENTER. This will scan this page for the appearance of that word.
  • Click TASKS to learn what to do next. Click the Hint button to be nudged in the right direction.

Starting the Game

  • Play (1) starts/continues the game. When you press Play for the first time, you are given the choice of difficulty settings (explained below).
  • Options (2) allows you to adjust the volume to the sound and music. You can also change the full screen and/or widescreen mode and select/deselect the custom cursor. Note: For my game, the options for widescreen mode and custom cursor did not work.
  • Map (3) shows a map of the playing area. More will be explained below.
  • Treasures (4) is a display room for the treasures you have found. Note: This is not a trophy room for the game. These are the treasures you need to find in order to advance and finish the game.
  • About (5) are the game’s credits.
  • Exit (6) quits the game.
  • Welcome (7) displays the game’s current profile. This is where you can add a new profile (player) or change the profiled player.

The Curse of the Ring

  • The map screen displays a map of the playing area. From here, you can press Play to play the game, click Treasures to see the treasure room, click Story to read your progress (like a Journal or Diary in other, similar games) and click Menu to return to the main menu.

Gameplay and Tips

  • This is a hidden object adventure game. You will move from location to location solving hidden object hunts, mini-puzzles and picking up items to use in order to proceed in the game.
  • You are given the choice to play in Casual Mode or Advanced Mode.
  • In Casual Mode, hints recharge quicker, active areas/inventory items are highlighted by sparkles and mini-puzzles have instructions. In Advanced Mode, hints take longer to recharge, active areas are not indicated (except when you mouse over an item/area) and instructions are not given for mini-puzzles. Once you have selected a difficulty mode, you cannot change it. Note: I played in Advanced Mode and instructions were given for mini-puzzles.
  • Move your mouse over every aspect of a scene and watch for your cursor to change into a magnifying glass which means you can zoom in to explore, or a grabbing hand which means you can pick up the item.

The Curse of the Ring

  • Items to be found appear as silhouettes in your inventory (located at the bottom of your screen). Once you have found the items, they appear in your inventory in colour. To use an inventory item, click on it and click on the area it needs to be used.
  • When searching for items, if a lock symbol appears above the inventory item’s silhouette, it means the item is not visible. Either you need to perform an action (i.e., open a drawer, open a box, etc.) or go to another location. When the lock disappears, the item is somewhere on the screen.
  • The Task button displays the list of tasks you need to complete.
  • Your cursor will change into an arrow when you can leave the location for another area.
  • Hidden object hunts provide a list of items to find. Click on items in the scene to cross them off the list. Once you have found all the hidden objects, a useful item (inventory item) is unlocked and you must find it in the scene.
  • Some hidden objects are hidden even further and you must perform an action to find them (for example, opening a box, pressing a button, etc.).
  • Hidden objects are different each time you play the game; the hint system can help you if you are stuck. Screenshots will only highlight the item that gets added to your inventory and items that require an action to find.
  • Hint – If you are stuck and cannot find an item in a hidden object hunt, click Hint (bottom right of your screen) and an item from the list will be highlighted. During regular play, clicking Hint will often highlight an area to investigate or urge you to explore other locations.
  • If you misclick too fast and often, your cursor becomes “locked” for a few seconds. There is no scoring or trophies in this game so it doesn’t affect outcome or scoring.
  • Mini-puzzles can be skipped once the Skip button has fully charged (the time depends on if you play in Casual or Advanced Mode). There seems to be no penalty.
  • There is no timer or point system.

Walkthrough – Level One

  • Regardless of the difficulty mode selected, you are offered a tutorial at the beginning. Take the help as it orients you to the game. It only explains gameplay, it does not guide you through the game.

  • At the shopkeeper’s request, click on the ring box on the table. Note: Click to close the tutorial windows. When the zoom window appears, click on the ring. Click to close the shopkeeper’s dialogue box, then Captain Flint appears and puts his curse on you. Click to close his appearance.

  • Click on the clock on the shelf (white highlight). Click to close the dialogue boxes and window. The items you need to find appear as a silhouette in your inventory. Find the eight gears (yellow circles). Once you find the six visible gears, notice a lock symbol appears above the gears’ silhouette. This means the items aren’t visible.
  • Click on the box on the back shelf (green highlight).

  • Take the gear. Click on the left drawer. Take the gear.
  • Click on the clock on the shelf (white highlight from screenshot above).
  • Mini-puzzle: Place the gears on the clock. Arrange all the gears so they all turn. To place the gears, click to select one, then position its hole over a peg and click to release.

  • You receive the Clock of Eternity. Click to close the explanation, then keep clicking until you get a new task.

  • Take the jug, then use it on the fountain (1) to get a jug of water. Use the jug of water on the shopkeeper (2). Click through the dialogue and once he’s done, click the door (3).

Spanish Galleon

  • Click the aqualung (1) to trigger a hunt to find the oxygen cylinders. Click on the door on the floor (2) to trigger a hunt to find a key. Enter the cabin (3).

  • Take the key from the table. Use it in the lock on the door on the floor, then click on the door to enter it.

  • Take the oxygen cylinders. Put the oxygen cylinders on the aqualung to start another object hunt.

  • Take the display. Enter the cabin (1).

  • Click to close the laptop. Take the manometer, flashlight, carabiner and one valve. Go into the galley (2, screenshot above).

  • Take the valve and hose. Click on the aqualung. Mini-puzzle: Position all the pieces to use the aqualung. The oxygen cylinders go in place, other pieces fit into their slot (ex: flashlight, display and carabiner). For the hoses and valves, place them with their matching colour (i.e., red hose covers the red plugs, etc.). To use the screenshot, match up the items to their corresponding numbers.

  • Click to close the dialogue box and do the mini-puzzle. Rearrange the tiles to complete the picture. This puzzle has many different solutions so a step-by-step guide is not possible. Click on tiles to rotate the four surrounding tiles.

  • Find the six items, then place them on Isabel. Click to dive into the water. Watch the cut scene.

  • Clicking TASKS tells you to learn the name of the ship. Click the side of the ship to trigger a hunt to find a knife. Go up the ladder, back to the boat (top left).

  • Take the knife. Dive back into the water. Use the knife on the side of the boat.

  • Keep clicking until you have removed all the moss and dirt. Move the knife around and click anywhere you see moss and/or dirt. Once you have removed it all, the knife will disappear. Click to move through the dialogue.

  • Click on the boulder (1). Find Poseidon’s treasures and the mast piece. Use the mast piece to lift the boulder and take the statue.
  • Once you have all the pieces, a mini-puzzle starts. Reposition all the items. A piece will only fit in its proper position. If you really don’t feel like thinking, take a piece and place it on each slot until it snaps into position. To use the screenshot solutions below, match the items to their corresponding numbered positions.

  • Place the shell pieces on the top of the pedestal. They don’t rotate so it’s very easy to determine what piece goes where.

  • For the coins, first position the obvious ones (i.e., the coin with the square in the middle goes into the slot with a square peg, etc.).

  • To position the figurines, match their base to their position’s slot. You receive the Artefact of Poseidon. Click through the dialogue.

  • Click on the cannon to start an object hunt. Once you’ve collected all the items you can (everything but two lengths of chain), climb the ladder to return to the boat (top left).

  • Take the two pieces of chain from the door on the floor and from the galley. Dive back into the water.

  • On the cannon sticking out of the ship, first place the hook, then the chain, then the metal basket, then the cannonballs. When the cannon falls, enter the ship through the hole.

  • Click on the captain’s cabin door (white square). Take the three puzzle pieces. Click on the fourth puzzle piece (1). You have to remove the ropes. Move your cursor slowly over the ropes until your cursor turns into a hand, then click. Continue this method until you’ve removed all the ropes and can take the puzzle piece. Now click on the cannon (2) to start a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the objects. The seahorse is added to your inventory. Leave the ship (click south).

  • Take the remaining two puzzle piece. Re-enter the ship.

  • Place the seahorse above the captain’s cabin door, then place all the puzzle pieces. Mini-puzzle: Click some of the puzzle pieces so all the spikes disappear. Click a puzzle piece to move the spikes, then click it again to reset. To figure out the solution, first click on all puzzle pieces to determine which spike(s) they move.

  • Following the screenshot above, the following puzzle pieces (lettered) move the following spikes (numbered):
  • A moves 4, 5, 7
  • B moves 2, 7, 8
  • C moves 1, 5

  • Enter the captain’s cabin.

  • Find all the items. Once you’ve found all the items, a mini-puzzle starts. It’s a match 2 puzzle. Click on the cards, two at a time, to reveal their picture. Click through all the images to match each to its mate. If the solution is the same every time, here is the solution to this puzzle:

  • Click on the table (white square). Find the four available dice, then leave the cabin (click south).

  • Take the two dice. Go back into the cabin.

  • Put the dice on the table to start a hunt for a compass. Click the back shelf (1) to start a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the objects. A compass is added to your inventory.

  • Put the compass on the holder. When the compass appears on your screen, turn the pointer so it faces N. This gives you the combination for the dice puzzle. Note: You must do this step before you can do the dice puzzle. The combinations may be different each time you play. Click to close the combination, then click on the table and rearrange the dice to match the combination.

  • Take the key from the drawer. Click the curtain at the top left of the scene (if you haven’t already), and then click on the lock (white square).
  • Mini-puzzle: Move the blue-eyed fish to the left and the red-eyed fish to the right. Blue-eyed fish can only move to the left, red-eyed fish can only move to the right. A fish can only move to an unoccupied space, either directly beside it or jumping once over an opposite fish. The RESET button will reset the puzzle so you can start again.

  • Click the chest and wall calendar (white squares) to trigger hunts. Take the five moon pieces. Leave the cabin (click south).

  • Put the moon pieces on the wall calendar (white square). Mini-puzzle: Arrange the moon pieces so they are in the order of the lunar cycle (from crescent moon to full to crescent again). Solution:

  • Click on the chest (white square). Put the key on the slot on top of the chest. When the chest opens, take the pirate portrait.

  • Put the pirate portrait on the wall. Click on the area that opens up. Close the window. A hunt for castle pieces is triggered.

  • Take the six items, then click on the chest (white square).

  • Take the ship. Click on the wall (white square). Recreate the castle (match the pieces to their corresponding numbers).

  • Click on the schema on the windowsill (right). Take note of the directions the ships are pointing. Close the schema and click on the wall again.

  • Mini-puzzle: Rotate the ships so they are pointing in the same directions as shown on the captain’s schema. Clicking ship 1 rotates all three, ship 2 rotates itself and ship 3 rotates ships 2 and 3. There are many ways to solve this puzzle. One way is to position ship 1, then position ship 3 and then ship 2. When a ship is in its correct position, fireworks will go off over the ship.

  • Take the logbook. Return to the boat (south three times, then up the ladder), then enter the cabin.

  • Place the logbook on the table. Mini-puzzle: Rotate the discs to complete the image. It’s a skull so position the nose (centre) and then work your way out. Solution:

  • Click the three numbered areas to trigger hunts. Take the gem and pickaxe. Use the pickaxe on the wall (1). Once the wall breaks down, click in the doorway. Click to close the window and another hunt is triggered.

  • Take the ten mosaic pieces. Click the white circled area to examine closer.

  • Place the mosaic pieces on the puzzle. Reassemble them to recreate the design. Click a piece to select it, then click again to release it. Once it’s in its correct position, it locks and can’t be removed. Start by position the centre piece, then it’s easy to place the rest. Solution:

  • Go through the newly opened gate.

You can’t rotate the items so match each statue/figure to its angled position. A statue/figure can only be placed in its correct slot. Solution:

  • Take the gem that appears in the centre. Close the window and leave the scene (south).

  • Place the gems on the carving (white circle), then click on the open mouth (small white circle). Click through the dialogue, then close the window. A new hunt is triggered. Take the four masks, then click on the wall (white square). Take the two masks. Click on the mouth on the wall (right, small white circle).
  • Place the masks on the area.

  • Mini-puzzle: Place the masks in their proper position. To determine each mask’s proper position, first match the symbol on the top of the mask to the red symbols in the centre of the disc, then match the symbols on its cheeks to the blue symbols between each slot. Solution:

  • Close the window. Enter the room at the top of the stairs.

  • Click on the man to trigger a hunt. Click on the door (1) to start a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the items. A peace pipe is added to your inventory. Give the peace pipe to the man and he gives you a key. Leave the scene (south).

  • Click on the mouth on the wall (white circle). Put the key in the slot, then take the pyramid. Enter the room at the top of the stairs.

  • Click on the altar in the middle of the room (white circle). Place the pyramid in the centre. Click through the dialogue and a new hunt is triggered. Click the gate behind the seated man.
  • Mini-puzzle: Fill the grid with tiles, ensuring each row and column has four different tiles. Click on a tile and four options appear, click on the tile you wish to place in the slot.

  • Enter the open gate.

  • Take the armour pieces. Click the tile on the floor to trigger another hunt. Place all the armour pieces on the mannequin (white circle). Once you’ve done this, you realize you are missing pieces so you automatically use the magic loupe you were given by Captain Flint. Move it around the scene to find the seals. The seals will be glowing. When you see a seal, click on it. The screenshot below shows where all five seals are located.

  • Take the armour piece. Place the armour piece on the mannequin. Take the medal that appears in its chest. The Magic Armour treasure is acquired. Click to move through the text.

  • Click on the tile on the floor. Place the medal on the tile. Go down the stairs that appear.

  • Take the shield. Leave the scene (south).

  • Click on the back wall. Place the shield in the slot. Another hunt is triggered.

  • Take the five mosaic pieces. Put the mosaic pieces on the back wall to start another hunt. Go through the gate (right).

  • Go down the stairs. Take the mould and bar.

  • Open the grate below the oven (white square) to trigger a hunt. Take a torch. Click on the coal, then take the scoop. Use the scoop to take some coal.
  • In the grate below the oven, add the coal, then add the torch. Go down the stairs.

  • Take the bellows.

  • Use the bellows on the grate (white square). Put the ingot (bar) on the fire. Then click on the shelves (white circle) for a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the items. The tongs are added to your inventory.

  • Use the tongs to take the ingot (bar) from the fire, then place it on the anvil (white circle). Tip: Have your cursor directly in the middle of the hot bar. If you can’t pick up the bar with the tongs, keep trying. Now take the sledgehammer.

  • Use the sledgehammer on the ingot (bar) to make the flat metal. Place the mould on the forge (white square). Then place the flat metal on the forge. Click on the forge (move your cursor around until it turns into a hand, then click). Use the tongs to take the hot casting.

  • Put the hot casting in the water to cool, then take the mosaic piece. Leave the room (south).

  • Place the mosaic piece on the wall. Mini-puzzle: Rotate the tiles to complete the design. Click on a tile to rotate it. Tip: The design is in a circle. Start at the top left tile and ensure that the curve goes inward, into a circle. Solution:

  • Click on the back wall to start another hunt. Go through the gate (right).

  • Click on the back wall to start a hidden object hunt. Find all the items. A palette is added to your inventory. Leave the scene (south), then click on the wall. Add the palette to the wall. Mini-puzzle: Paint the picture. The symbols at the top represent a colour. Dip the paintbrush in a colour and then colour in the corresponding colours. Solution:

  • Take four scrolls. Click on the back wall (white circle) to examine the area.

  • Take two scrolls. Go into the area on the left (white arrow from screenshot above).

  • Take three scrolls. Click on the area where the pigeons are perched (1), then click the fountain (2), then the aquifier (3), then the straw (4) to start a new hunt. Leave the scene.

  • Take the fountain’s valve. Click on the table to start a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the items. A rake is added to your inventory. Go back into the room with the fountain (white arrow in screenshot above).

  • Use the rake on the two straw piles (1) to get two scrolls. Put the fountain’s valve on the aquifier (2) and click to pump it. Then click on the tablet below the fountain (white square). Mini-puzzle: Rearrange the pipes so the water has one direct path. Once you’ve arranged the pipes, click the valve at the top to run the water. Solution:

  • Take the scroll from the pigeon at the fountain. Click through the dialogue. Mini-puzzle: Use the arrows to move the coin out of one of the maze’s exits. You can’t go through the skull and crossbones (pirates). Solution:

  • Click on the shipwreck to start a hunt. Take the six sign pieces (game calls them mosaic pieces), then put them back on the ship. Mini-puzzle: Rearrange the sign pieces to spell the name of the boat. Click and drag the pieces. Solution:

  • Enter the boat. Click through the dialogue.

  • Click on the skeleton to start a hunt. Click on the barrels at the back (white arrow) to start a hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the items. A sledgehammer is added to your inventory. Use the sledgehammer on the barrel the skeleton is holding. Click on the box.
  • Mini-puzzle: Turn the levers so the entire painting is lit up.

  • The painting is broken up into 9 sections (3 in each row and column). Each lever lights up different sections of the painting. First determine which lever lights up which part of the painting.
  • A lights 1, 3, 7, 9
  • B lights 1, 5, 9
  • C lights 2, 4, 6
  • D lights 5, 8
  • B is the only lever who’s numbers appear in all the other levers, therefore the solution is A-C-D.

  • Click on the map. Click through the dialogue and then close the window.

  • Click the back curtain (white square) to start a hunt. Take the four dies. Click on the skeleton’s treasure box and take the die. Place the dies on the back door (white square).
  • Mini-puzzle:

  • Move the dies into their proper order. Take note of the design on the sides of each die (highlighted in screenshot above) and move it so it exposes the openings. A die can only move one spot into an empty spot, or it can jump over one die into an empty spot. Unlike the fish puzzle earlier, the dies can move in any direction.

  • Click on the barrels in the back (white circle) to start another hidden object hunt.

  • Find all the items. A die is added to your inventory. Click on the door and add the die to the empty slot.

  • Take the Pirate’s Luck treasure. Click through the dialogue. Leave the ship (south) and on the beach, go east (right).

  • Click on the mechanism in the centre to start an object hunt. Take the winch and load stone. Click on the treasure pile (white circle).

  • Take the load stone, winch handle, crank handle and handle. Go to the beach (left).

  • Take the load stone. Go east. Place all the inventory items on the mechanism (it doesn’t matter where, just put the item on the mechanism and it will automatically go to the correct location). Another hunt is started.

  • Pick up the five gold items. Click on the treasure pile (white circle).

  • Put the gold in the carrier (white circle), then turn the handle (white square). Another hunt is triggered. Go to the beach (1) to start a hidden object hunt.

Use the long spoon (1) to put the charcoal (2) in the mortar (3), then take the pestle (4) and grind it and then pour it in the bowl (5). Put the sulphur (6) on the cutting board (7) and use the grater (8) to grate it, then put it in the bowl (5). Add the saltpetre (9) to the bowl (5). Use the spoon (1) to mix it. Use the spoon (1) to take some gunpowder and put it in the gold bowl (10) and use the burning candle to ignite it. Finally, add the poison (11) to the bowl (5). Take the gunpowder bag
  • Note: To add the spoonful of gunpowder, click on the gold bowl when the hand cursor is over it, not the bowl of the spoon).
  • Go up the stairs and click on the cannon.

  • Close the window and go south. Click the steering wheel, then return to the cannon. Light the fuse with the burning candle.
