Proving that social games will always be more fun than social services, Booyah announced earlier this month that its mobile check-in experience MyTown had reached 2 million users – that’s more than non-game location-based services Foursquare and Gowalla combined. Still riding high on that announcement, Booyah has raised $20 million in a recent round of funding led by Accel Partners.
In addition to this funding, Accel partner Jim Breyer will be joining Booyah’s board. “Booyah is at the epicenter of the fastest growing markets today— mobile, social, and interactive gaming,” he said.
At present, Booyah’s only product is MyTown for the iPhone. CEO and cofounder Keith Lee has indicated that this funding will be used to invest in some new projects that have yet to be announced, as well as increasing the size of their work force.
