General Game Information

NanoTowns

  • Nanotowns was introduced on Facebook in March of 2010 by Digital Chocolate Games.
  • Nanotowns allows you to build a virtual city in which you can fulfill quests involving the businesses in your city to earn additional coins you can reinvest allowing you to grow your city into a thriving metropolis.
  • Rent can be collected for the buildings in your Town based on their value. Some buildings will collect rent every 1, 5, or 15 minutes and some buildings will pay out higher amounts every 12 to 24 hours. Each type of building will earn you a different amount of rent. (See Building Rents Below) Generally, the more expensive a building is the more rent you will earn and the longer you will have to wait for it.
  • You will earn XP (experience points) for building different structures and fulfilling quests. XP points are what allows you to level up in the game.
  • There are two types of currency in Nanotowns. Town Coins (TC) are the games major currency. DC Cash is the game’s virtual currency used to buy higher end items and which allows you to build structures instantly or fulfill quests instantly. DC Cash can be purchased with a Major Credit Card, Paypal account or you can complete special offers fro free DC Cash. DC Cash will allow you to advance through the game much faster and you will be able to place the higher end decorative buildings in your Town.
  • You can place buildings anywhere you want in your town and can rotate the buildings placing things just how you want. There are great animations associated with many of the items you can place in your town.
  • Cars can be placed on the roads you build and they will drive back and forth. You can purchase a Fire engine, hybrid, Green Buggy, SUV, or Red sports Car to drive along your Town Roads.
  • As you earn more money and purchase different buildings new quests will be introduced to the game. You may complete one quest many times in the course of your game which adds up the overall amount of money and XP you earn.
  • Neighbors are an important part of Nanotowns and your Facebook Neighbors can play along with you. You can send each other gifts, send messages and visit each others Towns several times a day for instant income. You will earn 1 coin for each building your Neighbor has in their Town and the coins regenerate every 15 minutes. If you are willing to put in the time you can collect a large sum of money just visiting a few neighbors each day.
  • In May of 2010 Nanotowns updated the game adding more animations and sounds to the buildings. Quests were also changed and instead of appearing over 5 buildings they now appear at a Quest Station at the bottom center of the game screen.
  • Digital Chocolate has a forum for Nanotowns where you can chat with other Nanotowns fans and read all the newest game updates. You can find the forums here – http://forums.digitalchocolate.com/
  • There is a Fan page for Nanotowns located at Facebook where you can add new Neighbors and read up on new items added to the game each week. Fan page at Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/pages/NanoTowns/317673377117?ref=ts&v=wall

Nanotown Tips and Strategies

NanoTowns

  • When you begin the game use the “Instant build” features on the Bakery, Cafe and Burger Chains. This will give you a large amount of experience points even though you may lose some coins it will level you up fast. The rewards from leveling up faster will actually put you ahead.
  • The first building purchase you should make is the Record Store for 100 Town Coins. This takes 2 hours to build so purchase it right away.
  • Every 5 or so minutes you will notice an image of a cluster of 3 coins in a bubble above your buildings. This is the rent being collected and one of the ways you earn money in the game. The less expensive buildings you will purchase at the beginning of the game tend to have a 5 minute timer for the rent payout. As you purchase more expensive buildings you will learn that they pay out much higher rent but you have to wait longer to collect it. Be sure to see “Building Rents” below to learn which buildings pay out the most and how long you will have to wait.
  • You can collect rent from your buildings AND your Neighbors buildings so having a lot of Neighbors is critical. (See how to invite additional Neighbors below) Note that your buildings will yield different amounts of rents collected at different times and Neighbor visits will earn you 1 Town Coin for each completed building they have in their town. It appears you can collect from your Neighbor every 15 minutes so Be sure to take the time to harvest coins daily. You can actually harvest a large amount of money if you commit at least half an hour a day to it. Each building in your town has a different amount of rent. When you collect from your Neighbors you will collect 1 coin per building in their town.
  • A great strategy for gaining a large amount of experience points fast is to purchase a large number of DC News Stands and let them earn you a large amount of experience points. You produce the DC Magazine Stand for 15 coins and will earn 10 XP each time. You can also sell it back for 18 coins for a small profit if you choose.
  • Quests are the best way to earn coins and experience points. A maximum of five quests will appear at a time so be sure to study each one for the amount of coins or experience points earned. Some will offer less coins but more XP and some will offer less XP but more coins. It depends on your goal. If you want to level up fast focus on quests that offer higher XP and if you want more coins to invest in your town then you should focus on quests offering more coins as a reward.
  • Sometimes it is best to own more than one of a certain type of building. For example owning several Cafes, Burger Stands, and News Stands can help you to level up through the first 6 levels very fast. Many of the quests are similar and if you have more than one building producing you will get things completed much quicker. As you level up and do not need this items you can sell a few of them off to invest in more expensive buildings. Do not sell all of them because you need at least one of each building to make sure you can handle any quests that come along.
  • Be sure to look at the number of items in storage when deciding on an item to produce. There is a number in the upper right hand corner telling you how many you have in inventory. This will save you a lot of time if you get into the habit of checking this number before you have any duplicates or waste time.
  • Whenever you cut the ribbon on a new building immediately begin producing an item from it even if you do not have any quests requiring it. It is always good to keep as many buildings producing as possible to stockpile items for future quests. This will help you to level up much faster as you open more buildings and quests.
  • Avoid Duplicate Quests whenever possible. If you have a quest pending and it comes up again decline it so another quest will come up that you can earn points from rather than tying up all the time after duplicates.
  • Note that each building has a different rent time and amount. (See Building Rents.) Some Buildings will have rents payable to you every 1 to 5 minutes and some only pay rents once a day. Typically the larger the rent amount, the longer you will have to wait for it.
  • Collect rent frequently and visit your Neighbors for an hour a day to stockpile a large amount of town coins. Reinvest them into the most expensive building you can afford. These buildings will pay you higher rent and give you quests that earn you large amounts of XP.
  • It is wise in the beginning to purchase 2 Burger Chains and 2 Cafes since the early quests rely heavily on what these businesses produce. As you progress in the game you will not need these as much so sell 1 of them and reinvest your coins into a more expensive building which will pay higher rent to you and give you a quest with a higher XP payout.
  • TIP – Use this guide to purchase buildings wisely. Purchase buildings that produce items or quests first and leave the ones that are only for decoration once you have your game well established.
  • TIP – Before you purchase an item from the Market that can be produced be sure to check the cost of “Instant Production” For Example, if you would like to purchase a bed instead of waiting 4 hours for it to be produced you could buy it from the Market for 6,947 Town Coins or you could use “Instant Production” for 5,324 Town Coins thus saving you 1,623 Town Coins. Always check instant production cost versus Market prices when applicable.

Getting Started

NanoTowns

  • To play Nanotowns you must have a Facebook account. If you need one you can register here: http://www.facebook.com
  • You will be asked to give your town a name after you type in the name hit accept and you will begin.
  • There is a brief tutorial window shown which you can study for a few moments. If you need to see it again click on the “?” on the mid right side of the game screen.
  • You begin the game with 1,000 Town Coins, 1 DC Bucks, 1 Cafe, 2 Chalets, 1 Do’s Donuts, 1 Corner Shop, 1 Bakery, 1 Burger Chain, 2 Ferns, and a road that intersects from both directions with a Blue Hybrid Car driving back and forth on it.
  • The first thing you should do is click on each building to see the menus as this is how you will navigate around the game.
  • Next you will need to assign workers to each of your buildings (and drivers to your vehicles) which is the first option on each menu. Assigning workers to buildings will make each task go faster and some tasks can not be done unless you have a worker so it is best to do this right away whenever you purchase a new building for your town.
  • For Example, click on the Bakery and at the top you will see, “Add Baker” A menu will appear with a scrolling list of all of your Facebook friends that also play Nanotowns and have accepted an invitation to be your Neighbor. (See inviting Facebook friends to be your Nanotown Neighbor below) You may type in your friend’s name or search for it in the scrolling menu. Once you choose a friend you have the option of telling them or not. If you choose to tell them it will be posted on their Facebook profile that you have hired them as your Baker or whatever job you are choosing for your building.
  • NOTE – You can always change to another friend if you want to. The option at the top will say “Change ?” once you hire someone. Click on that and you can replace your employee if you wish.
  • NOTE – Cars need drivers assigned to them as well as workers in buildings.

NanoTowns
NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • Important Game Symbols
  • You will need to learn what each of these icons mean in order to play Nanotowns.
  • A. Rent – At least every 1 to 5 minutes you will see this icon of 3 coins over some your buildings. Each building has its own rent amount which you can find listed below in this guide under “Building Rents” The rent is always a minimum of 1 to 5 coins and increases with the more valuable buildings. Click on the icon to collect your rent every 5 minutes (or whenever it becomes due showing this symbol) when you are in the game. NOTE – When you collect from Neighbors this amount is always 1 coin per building.
  • B. New Quest Available – This icon (a clipboard with a checklist) means a quest is available for you to accept or decline. When you click on this icon the quest will appear and you must decide if you can fulfill this quest or not. You may want to purchase the building needed to complete the quest or you may want to decline. There is no penalty for declining a quest and another quest will appear in its place. There are never more than 5 quests available at one time. If you can’t do one it is better to just decline right away. (See Quests below for more detailed information.) IMPORTANT NOTE – In May of 2010 game was changed and this symbol no longer appears over 5 buildings but appears at the bottom center of the game screen in a Quest Station. When you see the symbol with the clipboard and checklist there you can click on it for the 5 Quests.
  • C. Produced item Ready for Collection – This icon (a full Grocery bag) means that an item you have asked a building to produce is now ready and you can collect it. This item can be for a specific quest or to keep in storage for future quests. Click on the icon then “Collect.” IMPORTANT NOTE – In May of 2010 this feature of the game was eliminated and you no longer see it over buildings. You can see if items are complete in the Quest area now.
  • D. Quest in progress – (Clipboard/Checklist with Hourglass at bottom right) This icon means a quest is in process. You will not need to click on this unless you wish to see what the quest is or cancel a quest. If you wish to cancel a quest click on “Drop Quest” at the bottom of the page. IMPORTANT NOTE – In May of 2010 the game was updated and this symbol was eliminated from the game.
  • E. Quest Completed – This icon (Clipboard with Checklist and Check mark) means the items you are producing to fulfil a quest are now ready. You must click on the produced item ready icons and collect these items and then click on the quest completed icon to collect your coins and XP for completing a Quest. IMPORTANT NOTE – In May of 2010 the game was updated and this symbol is no longer seen over buildings but now seen in the Quest Center. (See “Quest Center” Below)
  • F. New Building Ready – This icon of a ribbon being cut means that a building you have purchased is completely built and ready for use. Click on this icon and you are ready to go with this building.
  • TIP – The first Building to purchase should be the Record store as it is the first quest asked of you for buildings you are not automatically given in the game. It takes 2 hours to build so purchase it right away so that by the time you hit level 5 you will be ready for quests involving the record store.

Quest Center

  • When you click on the icon a screen will appear showing you all available quests, completed quests and those unable to be completed.
  • You will see the Quests referred to as your neighbor’s quests now.
  • You can click on a building to start production of its goods or you can access it from the Quest Center by clicking on the item and then on “Start Production” You can then check on the status of the goods from the building or from the Quest Center.
  • As before only 5 quests will be shown at a time.
  • Quests highlighted in Green are completed and you need to click on them to collect your reward which has stayed the same since the upgrade.
  • You have the option of posting your completed quests on your Facebook profile if you would like.
  • NOTE – When you see the “!” symbol next to the quest center it means that Quests are completed and need to be collected.
  • In the second image above you will see the new symbols associated with Quests in the Quest Center.
  • A. Quest not in Progress – This means you have the building to produce item but it is not being produced at this time. It could be building another product and you will need to wait until it is finished or drop the quest for now.
  • B. Quest in Progress – An item needed to complete a Quest is being produced. Click on this symbol and it will tell you how much longer until it is completed.
  • C. Quest Completed – You will see this green color behind completed quests. Click on “Reward” to collect.
  • D. Drop Quest – Click this if you do not want to do the Quest or can’t do it because you don’t have the building yet.

  • Click on the item you wish to purchase and then confirm and the item will be added to your inventory until you are ready to use it.

Assigning Jobs to your Neighbors/Facebook Friends

NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • After you place a building and it is complete and ready for producing items you will need to assign jobs to your neighbors.
  • Those buildings with assigned jobs will work faster than those without.
  • Left click on the building and when the menu appears look for the very first option which will be something such as, “Add Baker” or “Add Grandpa” There are all kinds of jobs assigned to the buildings.
  • Once you click on “Assign” a menu will appear with all of your Facebook friends. You may type the name in if you know who you want or you can scroll through the names until you find one and click on it.
  • Next you will be offered the option of letting your Neighbor know that you assigned them to a particular job in your Town. If you choose to share this it will be posted on their Facebook wall for all to see. If you click on “Skip” your Neighbor will never know what job you have assigned to them.
  • Changing Jobs – If you want to change just click on the building and the option will be “Change Baker” Etc. Click on Change and then put in the new name as shown above.
  • You may only assign one job per building and per person. Once you run out of friends you will have to leave buildings without people running them or you may invite more friends.

Inventory

NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • To access your inventory click on the open box icon at the bottom left of the game screen.
  • Any gifts given to you by Neighbors can be stored here as well as any items you produce that you do not immediately need for a quest.
  • Any item in your town you wish to gift to someone must be sent to inventory first and sent out from there. (See sending gifts to Neighbors below)

Quests

NanoTowns
NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • Quests are some of the most important elements of Nanotowns.
  • Quests are tasks you agree to complete in exchange for XP and Town Coins or DC Bucks.
  • You must pay a small fee to produce an item required of you by a Quest and you can pay extra for “Instant Production” which will give you that item immediately. You can also shop at the Market for an item if you do not want to wait for it.
  • There are several quests and the more buildings you add to your town the more quests will unlock.
  • Click on the Quest Center at the mid bottom of the game screen to see which quests are available and decide which you would like to accept.
  • TIP – If you have a building that you are not using for quests make sure you are producing something in it. The item will go into inventory and will be used for future quests.

Production/Producing Goods for Quests/Producing Structures

NanoTowns
NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • Each time you accept a quest you will need to produce goods from one or more locations.
  • You can either buy the item from the Market if it is featured or if you have DC Bucks to use in the DC Shop or you will have to click on the building that produces the goods that you need and pay a fee to start production. Each item in addition to having a price will have a certain amount of time until it is ready. NOTE – Be sure to compare cost of “Instant Production” versus Market Cost.
  • When you accept a quest look at the bottom as a hint will appear telling you where the item is produced.
  • Click on the building you need and a menu will appear. Click on “Produce” (You can also click on the item in the Quest Center and start production from there.)
  • Next, another menu will open up stating all the items that location produces.
  • Choose to make the item by clicking on “Start Production” and if you have the funds and choose to click on “Instant Production” which will cost a few coins more but may earn you more XP and allow you to finish faster thus having time for more quests.
  • TIP – Quests can only be completed while you are actually in the game. Those who spend a lot of time in the game will level up much faster than those that check in a few minutes per day.
  • TIP – Never have a building that isn’t producing for you. At all times keep your buildings producing even if there is no current quest for the items it produces. These items can be put in your inventory and stored until needed. This will help you level up much faster in future quests.
  • TIP – When an item is finished producing you will see a grocery bag icon over the building. Be sure to click on these right away to put the item into use or inventory as you can not collect rent on any building until all business is taken care of.
  • TIP – Be sure to use the “Buildings” section of this guide to show you which buildings produce which items.

Instant Production

NanoTowns

  • You are offered the choice of “Instant Production” when producing goods and when building structures in Nanotowns.
  • It costs extra but will save you a lot of time.
  • Many structures require DC Cash in order to bypass the wait time.
  • Use your DC Cash wisely and invest it in buildings that produce items you will need for quests and that have an especially long wait time such as several days.
  • NOTE – You can choose “Instant Production” right away or you can choose it later even after production has been underway awhile so if you change your mind the cost will be the same as if you had chosen “Instant Production” in the first place.

Cancelling Production in Progress

NanoTowns

  • If you have chosen to produce an item but have made a mistake or changed your mind you can cancel it at any time.
  • Click on the building and click on “Produce” to see what is in progress. Click on “Delete Quest” and you will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the item.
  • NOTE – You will lose all time and money invested in any item you cancel production on so only do it if it is necessary and justifies the loss.

How to Invite Facebook Friends to become Nanotown Neighbors

NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • There are a few ways to invite Facebook friends to become Nanotown Neighbors.
  • First of all there is a listing of Neighbors at the bottom of the game screen. You should see a few of your friends listed to the far left or right with the word “Invite” under their images. Click on this and it will trigger a menu allowing you to invite this friend and any others on your Facebook friend list.
  • Each person must accept the invitation before they will be on your friend list.
  • To find people that will join your friend list just to become your Nanotown Neighbor you can visit the Digital Chocolate forum and find people under “Neighbors” or “Add Me” Send them a Facebook invitation with a personal message that says, “Please add me as a Nanotown Neighbor” You can find the DC forum “Add Neighbors” page here – http://forums.digitalchocolate.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31
  • Another way to find Nanotown Neighbors is to find the Facebook Fan page and look along the photo comments for people that post “Add Me” or looking for Neighbors” Here you can click directly on their name then “Friend Request” again, be sure to send a personal message mentioning Nanotowns so they know why you want to add them.
  • NOTE – Once someone is on your Facebook friend list then one of you will have to send an invitation to become a Nanotown Neighbor.
  • Click on “Invite Neighbors” and check off the names of those you wish to invite.
  • You must wait for their approval before they will show up on your friend list.
  • NOTE – You may be limited to a certain number of invitations at the beginning of your game. This should increase the longer you play the game and the more Neighbors you add to your game.

Visiting Neighbors/Collecting Coins from your Neighbors

NanoTowns
NanoTowns

  • Your Neighbors are located at the bottom of the game screen and are listed in order of score from lowest to highest (Left to Right)
  • You can visit your Neighbors as many times as you like in a 24 hour period with 15 minutes between visits.
  • This can be a huge help to you financially as you can earn 1 Town coin for each building your Neighbor has.
  • For Example, if you have a Neighbor with 84 buildings you can earn 84 Town Coins by clicking on each one. If you do this 4 times in 1 Hour you will earn 336 Coins with just 1 Neighbor. If you have 20 Neighbors and are willing to devote the time you could earn a large amount of money to invest in your town.
  • Once you click on your Neighbor’s image you will hear either a door knock or a door bell. You will see coins above each building if enough time has gone by. Click on each one to collect.
  • TIP – It is much easier to collect from neighbors if you zoom out a few times. This way you can see the entire town at once. Click on the “-” symbol in the magnifying glass to the right side menu of the game screen shown above.
  • NOTE – The time limit on the visiting could change in the future but as of now it is every 15 minutes before coins regenerate.
