If you’re a fan of the hillbilly Asteroids-style game Space Miner: Space Ore Bust, today is a day you’ll want to be sure to visit the App Store. Venan Entertainment has just released version 1.2 of the popular space game, and it’s brought a wealth of enhancements and additional content with it.

The most noticeable tweak that the game has undergone is in the visuals department. Shader enhancements have been made that give the asteroids a more polished, shiny look. Due to the hardware needed to produce this effect, the change will only be noticeable to those using the iPhone 3GS or a third generation iPod Touch. The other features in this update will be available to everybody.

New content aimed at bringing experienced players back for a greater challenge has been included in version 1.2 as well. Players will now be able to unlock a level 7 license to get access to new ship improvements, compete in the hardcore “UltracORE” mode which challenges players to beat the game on the hardest difficulty with only one life, and discover five new forms of alien tech to help them along the way.

Venan has also rebalanced the difficulty levels and level progression to offer up more of a challenge to players at any skill level. 10 new Plus+ achievements have been added to accompany these new features, as well as the ability to share your exploits with friends over Facebook and Twitter.

If you’re already a fan of Space Miner: Space Ore Bust, be sure to keep an eye out for Venan Entertainment’s next iPhone release, Ninjatown: Trees of Doom.
