In 2008 Venan Entertainment and designer toy studio Shawnimals joined forces to create the critically-acclaimed tower defense game Ninjatown for the Nintendo DS. Now the pair are joining forces once again to revisit their popular town full of ninjas. Much to our surprise, however, Ninjatown: Trees of Doom ditches the successful tower defense formula of its predecessor and opts instead for an arcade-style survival experience.

 Trees of Doom

Ninjatown: Trees of Doom will place players in control of a Wee Ninja who is out to impress his mentor Ol’ Master Ninja. To do this the Wee Ninja will scale a pair of trees, jumping from one to the other to avoid dangers and obstacles. Players will encounter untouchable syrup, deadly lava, and a variety of devils that will try to impede their progress.

Players will also have a number of power-ups and environmental benefits on their side. The Wee Ninja will be able to use branches like catapults, for example, or hitch a ride on a flying moustache.

Ninjatown: Trees of Doom is expected to arrive on the AppStore in the next few weeks with an anticipated price of $1.99.
