Check out our tips and tricks for Hell’s Kitchen and master the art of cooking.

Hell’s Kitchen has 36 days in which the game takes place and 5 different ranks you can earn. You start off as a dishwasher and move up the rank as Apprentice, Junior Cook, Cook and finally Senior Chef, in that order.

You don’t get a score in this game, you get rated by the quality of your dishes anywhere from zero to 5 stars. Get a zero and you’ll lose that round.

GENERAL TIPS

  • Quality will make up for a customer’s impatience is the first thing that Ramsey says when you start the game. That is a big clue for the rest of the game.
  • The better your dish is the more patient your customers and Gordon Ramsay will be. This game focuses more on perfect dishes than on faster service.
  • Don’t kill yourself trying to take care of all the customers at once. Getting a 5 star rating will be the only thing that makes your customers happy and that will help you advance in the game. I can’t say it enough: focus on getting the highest quality dish every time.
  • For each level that you unlock you will get a free recipe that you can cook at home from Gordon Ramsey’s own recipes. To access all the recipes at once go to the main menu. Click on the recipes tab and browse through all the choices.
  • You can also print the recipes if you’d like. Click on the print icon that’s at the bottom of the screen when a specific recipe has been chosen.
  • Depending on what stage you’re in, you’ll know you’re finished cooking for the day when you see a sign that says desserts completed. If you’re in the earlier stages of the game you’ll see a sign that says entrees completed instead.
  • Go into the dining room from time to time while a meal is cooking so you can check on the diners. If a blue lights is lit on a table it means that they need service. Click on that table to take their next order.
  • All the dishes from a table have to be served at the same time. You cannot leave the kitchen with an order that is not complete.
  • Make sure that you’ve picked up all the pans off of the stove before you go back to the dining room to serve some food. If you don’t, you risk the chance of burning something if you left it unattended for too long.
  • If you burn something you will have to start the dish all over again, which in turn will put you behind on all your other orders.
  • If you’re confused about the ingredients go into a pan because the images are so tiny. Look at the color of the band around each bowl. It coincides with the color of the band of the bowl in the cooking area.
  • When the food is ready you’ll see certain spots in which each is supposed to be placed. You don’t have to be 100% accurate when you drag the pots back. As long as you click them onto the general area, the pan will automatically fall in place.
  • Every so often new customers will come in to the dining area and you’ll read a description of what they are looking for. You’ll also see a picture of them. Read the description that is below each customer so you can prioritize when it comes to serving.
  • You can always go back and replay any levels if you wish to improve your star ratings. Once you’ve completed a level you can simply click on the day you wish to replay. This will not make you lose the progress you already have in the game.
  • When you have larger groups of people to cook for make sure that all the dishes are prepared with the same quality. If they’re not, just one poorly made order will throw off the rating of the whole table.
  • Space out how you take care of your customers. Before you take their orders let them wait a little. This will minimize the time in which they’ll get impatient while waiting either in line or at the table.

KITCHEN TEST

  • On every Monday, except for the first one, you will have to complete a challenge from Gordon Ramsay. Your goal will be to prepare orders from both the blue and red kitchen.
  • In these levels you will have to complete meals from each side of the kitchen in a timely manner. If you don’t the whole thing will go up in flames and you’ll have to start all over again.
  • You can cook 2 meals simultaneously. Be careful when you do 2 meals in both kitchens at the same time. You don’t want to do too many things at once or you’ll end up burning the food.
  • Starting on the third Monday the oven will be introduced into play. There’s no explanation of this when you start that round. You have to prepare food in the oven in the same way you prepare food on stove.
  • As you’ll probably notice, items that need to be cooked in the oven take longer to cook than those on the stove. Always cook the food in the oven first and then cook the ones on the stove last. Once you get to day 24 the oven time will be reduced from 17 seconds to 12 seconds.
  • If it’s too hard for you to prepare meals in both kitchens at the same time just alternate between the two. As soon as you’re done in the blue kitchen, go the red kitchen and cook those dishes next. You don’t want to completely finish cooking on one side and then start on the other.

FOOD PREPARATION

  • You can start prepping food even before the customers sit down. As the dining room opens, go into the kitchen right away. Click on every single bowl that’s on the counter and then go to the dining room, seat and take orders.
  • When you click on several foods to be prepped for cooking, queue them in such a manner that will allow you to use the ingredients in the order that you need. Don’t queue foods that you’re not going to use right away, queue the ones that you need to pour into the next pot.
  • The bowls that are in queue to be prepped will float on top of the bowl. You’ll see the ingredients moving up and down above the bowl.
  • Try to have a different last ingredient for each station. When you prep food in this manner it keeps you from having dishes finishing at different times. You don’t want to have 2 of the same last ingredients right before you start cooking. If you do, the food will not be ready at the same time since you’ll lose time waiting for an ingredient to be prepped.
  • When you pick up a bowl from the counter, the pan the bowl goes into will highlight itself making it easier to find where it needs to go.If it goes in more than one place, all the places will light up. This can be help you plan what needs to go into the pans next.

STAR RATINGS

  • A dish can be rated with 1 to 5 stars depending on the quality of the dish. Dishes that have been timed perfectly during cooking and have been taken off the stove in time will earn 5 stars from the chef.
  • You will lose stars faster if you let a meal burn than if you just let it sit around. It is best to take a meal out of the pot as soon as it’s ready so you don’t lose star ratings.
  • If your let your food sit on the stove or in the oven too long the meal will burn and you will have to start that meal all over again.
  • Once you’ve taken the food off of the stove, the longer you let it sit without serving, the faster you’ll lose ratings on your dish.

CHAINING TASKS

  • You can queue your waiter to do several jobs consecutively. While you’re cooking, go into the dining room and click on several tables at a time, include the people at the front desk as well.
  • You can tell what customers are next in line waiting for the waiter when you see an arrow over their head. You can queue several jobs ahead of time and then head back to the kitchen.
  • You can also chain several food items to be chained as well. You can click on every single bowl on the counter, one at a time. Each bowl will be prepped in the order that you clicked.

COOKING TIMES

  • The timer next to each pan represents the cooking times for each recipe. Calculating cooking times correctly will be the only way to earn a 5 star dish in Hell’s Kitchen.
Timing is everything in this game. You have to make sure that all your food is ready at the same time. If they’re not, the food that’s left sitting will lose stars the longer it sits unattended. Leave it too long and you’ll have to start that meal all over again.
Cook foods first that take the longest to get ready. You want to do those first since they will take longer to cook than all your other dishes.
You want recipes to finish cooking at the same time. Wait until the longest recipe’s timer matches the shortest recipe’s timer before you start cooking them.
When you start slower recipes first it minimizes the amount of time a dish sits in the cooling area. The longer a dish sits in a cooling area the more stars that dish will lose. You could start with a 5 star dish and end up with a much lower ranking or none at all.
As soon as a timer on a dish reaches zero you want to drag that dish to the cooling area immediately. If you don’t the dish will burn up and you’ll have to start all the dishes from that table again.

COOKING EXAMPLES

Here are some examples of how to handle different cooking situations:

Example 1
You have 2 exact orders that need to be prepared. One of them takes 13 seconds to prepare and the other one takes 5 seconds.

  • Start cooking the 13 second one first and while that is cooking you should prep the second portion.
  • When the first dish reaches five or 6 seconds to completion, drop in the second order so they can be finished at the same time.

Example 2
You have 2 dishes that have the same 2 ingredients, grains and poultry. They also take the same amount of time to cook (9 seconds)

  • Prep both bowls at the same time (grain and veg). Pour the veggies on one side and the grains on the other.
  • Now prepare the veggies and grains again. Now pour both ingredients in the opposite pots. If you poured the veg in pot 1 then place the grains in pot 1 to complete the meal.

Example 3
You have 2 meals to prepare with 13 seconds cooking time each. One dish has grains and veggies and the other one has grains and poultry.

  • Prepare your grain and veggies along with your poultry one after the other.
  • Pour the grains into one pot and then the poultry in the second pot.
  • Now you need to prep your next bowl of grain. Once it is ready pour the veggie in the first pot and the grains in the second pot one after the other.

Example 4

  • You have 3 meals to cook, one in the oven and 2 on the stove.
  • For the left stove you have poultry and grains (13 seconds).
  • For the middle stove you have dairy and grains (9 seconds).
  • For the oven you have meat and veggies (12 seconds).
  • Mix all the ingredients before you seat anyone.

First round

  • Place the grain on the left stove, the dairy, in the middle stove and the beef in the oven.
  • Prep all your ingredients as soon as you use one, start with the grain first since you have to use that one again.

Second Round

  • Place the poultry on the first stove first since it takes the longest to cook.
  • Immediately after, you need to place the veggies in the oven.
  • Right after that, place the grains in the middle stove since by then all meals should finish around the same time.

Example 5
In this example you have to cook 4 dishes at once.

  • You should automatically prep a bowl immediately after use.
  • Left stove-You have beef and dairy (13 seconds)
  • Middle stove-You have 3 bowls, grain veggies and poultry.
  • Right stove you have grains and meat.
  • In the oven you have veggies and beef.
  • Mix all the ingredients before you seat anyone,

First Round

  • Place the beef on the left stove.
  • Place the poultry in the middle stove.
  • Place the grains in the last stove.
  • Place the veggies in the stove.

Second Round

  • Place the veggies in the middle stove.
  • Since your first two stoves have the longest cooking time, you want to place the other ingredients in there first.
  • Place the dairy on the first stove and then place the grains on the middle stove.
  • Immediately after you want to place the beef in the oven since the time is so close to the food in the first 2 stoves.
  • Prep the meat as soon as you use it.
  • As all the other food nears the 6 second mark, add the beef to the last stove since it only takes 5 seconds to cook.
  • Take everything off as soon as the temperature reaches zero.
